I've been playing the realtime 3D reboot of Myst lately and felt the need to do a bit of fanart.
You can find a DRM-free version of the game for $6 here: http://www.gog.com/game/real_myst
Just a doodle of Tica sitting on a bridge in the Channelwood age. Channelwood always was my favorite--it seemed the most hospitable of all the ages. Certainly Tica, as a sloth, would feel the most comfortable in a warm age of trees and treehouses.

It was probably a first video game for a lot of people... it came out in 1993 and was *the* best-selling video game of all time until the Sims beat it out in 2002.
I remember wandering through Myst island as a pretty young kid. I never figured out how to get to any age other than the Stoneship age until I was much older... like middle school, I think.
The Myst universe has always kind of defined my video game tastes and became a minor obsession that I'll always have... I've played and finished all the games in the series (five Myst games, plus the spinoff Uru: Ages Beyond Myst) and read all three novels set in the universe. I was even part of the beta of the Myst Online MMO experiment that sadly failed just a year or two later.
Basically Myst is one of my favorite things ever, and it's a game that I revisit whenever I want the calming effect of just wandering through beautiful environments and losing myself in another world.

it's not too late! I'm pretty sure you can pick up realMYST on Steam or GOG.com for $6, and realMYST: Masterpiece edition (same thing, better graphics) is also in both places for about $18 (personally though I don't think the graphics upgrade is worth the jacked price but idk)
You can also get classic Myst for a variety of platforms usually for around $5 or $6.
I would recommend getting the $6 realMYST and having a play of it. It has some minor changes that bring it in line with the sequels, and a new age to explore once you "beat" the original game," which has a tie-in to the 4th game.
They're all super worth playing, if you like adventure games at all. You can get bad endings (so save before you make a major choice!!) but you can't actually die or be killed during gameplay, and you can take it at your own pace, so it's definitely a different experience from the FPS and RTS etc. scene.
