Three months ago (on January 7, 2015), terrorists assassinated a number of staff members of the French humor magazine "Charlie Hebdo" - including several of their talented cartoonists - at their headquarters in Paris.
As a result, many international cartoonists paid homage to them with special images, punctuated with the slogan "Je suis Charlie" (which is French for "I am Charlie").
I wanted to show my own support by creating an original image in the wake of this terrible incident. (Far be it from me to render a political cartoon, as it's not my usual style. But I'd decided to try my hand at it in a [hopefully] non-offensive way.)
My homage to "Charlie Hebdo" features 'Rob Cat' with his head sticking out of a makeshift guillotine - the base of which looks like the Arc de Triomphe. Said guillotine represents 'terrorism', which stifles the creativity of the bobcat - who holds in his left paw three art implements (a pen, a pencil, and a paintbrush) - as his head is covered with sweat (worrying about having it drop into the basket placed in front of him).
I'm sure that other cartoonists might have drawn variations of this cartoon. I plan to post an alternate version of this gag in a few days...
