Andrew's Thoughts #003 - Is Nintendo Gonna Flag Me?
[PREVIOUS << 002 - Disneyland, Is It REALLY The Happiest Place On Earth?]
Hello there fellow viewers,
Andrew here and welcome back to another exciting story of... ANDREW'S THOUGHTS... Yeah, I know they aren't THAT exciting... Lol!
Anyway, today I figured that I'd talk about what Nintendo is doing on YouTube lately. Their partnership with YouTube that affecting critics & let's players who play Nintendo games on their YouTube channels. Now I haven't been affected by Nintendo on YouTube, and I SURE AS HELL hope I won't, but why am I gonna be talking about this?
Well, for anyone that doesn't know, I am gonna be starting my own let's play series on my YouTube channel soon. It's gonna be called “Andrew's Gaming Time” where I play certain video games and record my reactions & comments to the game. I have already finished making 2 episodes and will start uploading them as soon as I finish the other 3. Here's what the episodes are.
#1 – South Park: The Stick of Truth for the Xbox 360
#2 – Super Mario All-Stars' version of Super Mario Bros for the SNES
#3 – Final Fight (Part of the Capcom Classics Collection) for the Xbox w/Sebastian (my older step-brother)
#4 – Sonic the Hedgehog for the SEGA Genesis
#5 – Either Jungle Hunt for the Atari Flashback 4 OR something else...
Now in future episodes, I plan to play the other Final Fight games (except the remakes) in the order of when they were first released in the world. However, Final Fight 2, Mighty Final Fight, & Final Fight 3 are only available on Nintendo consoles. Final Fight 2-3 are for the SNES & Mighty Final Fight is for the NES. Personally, I think I'll be fine with those games (if I ever play them) because although they'll have to be played on Nintendo consoles, the rights to the Final Fight franchise is owned by Capcom.
My main concern is actually my second episode, which is Super Mario All-Stars' version of Super Mario Bros... A Nintendo franchise game... Which raises one question I have on my mind. If I upload this episode on my YouTube channel, will Nintendo flag my video?
Because from what I understood from the videos I've seen about Angry Joe's rant on Nintendo, it sounds like that you only get in trouble if you're making money off the video and not giving Nintendo a cut of the profits.
But what if you're not making money off of the video and have absolutely no intentions of making money off of the video in question? Because my let's play series was gonna be for entertainment purposes only. I have no intentions of making money off of my let's play series... At all... Even if it gets popular and I could make a well decent job out of it like other let's players I watch, I don't plan to make profit off of this let's play series.
Although that's the case, will I get in trouble with Nintendo if I upload the second episode that has a Nintendo franchise game? Even if I mention in the info in bold capital letters that “THE FOLLOWING IS A NON-PROFIT LET'S PLAY FOR RECREATIONAL PURPOSES ONLY!”?
Since I can't find a decent answer out of this, it looks like my best bet is to upload it and see what happens...
But maybe one of you may have a better understanding of what this Nintendo/YouTube agreement is all about and how it would affect me if I upload this let's play episode of Super Mario Bros. So if you do know, please share it with us in the comments below.
I mean I don't want to be against Nintendo, my brother & I grew up on Nintendo. I remember when we would play Super Mario Bros 3 on the NES at our grandparent's house. Out of every other game we played, that's the game we played the most and we'd always have fun playing it together.
But if Nintendo is gonna flag me over a non-profit episode of me playing one of their games, which is also a childhood game to me btw, then I won't know what to think of Nintendo anymore! Because that's just as bad as Marvel skimming my email, thinking I'm a fan, and redirecting me to a fan website!
Nintendo is my childhood, and I would really hate Nintendo if they took that childhood and smashed it in front of my face... Well, if they do that, you'll certainly hear about it in my next Andrew's Thoughts...
So that's it for today's Andrew's Thoughts. Thank you all so much for reading, be sure to comment, fave, and watch to see new stuff and be sure to look over my gallery for more work that I've done.
This is Andrew saying good day.

True, but there are actually some companies that support let's players. Capcom being one of them. Because those companies in question realize that if the let's player plays the game, it'll increase sales for the game depending on how the let's player says it is.
Like for example, suppose Microsoft decided to give me the first ever copy of Halo 5 to try out in a let's play episode and give my viewers my 2 cents on the game. If I mention good things about the game, like if I say that it is the best Halo experience I've ever had or something like that, it'll convince my viewers to buy the game & try it out for themselves.
But if I mention bad things about it, the only people who would most likely buy the game are die-hard Halo fans &/or people who want to try the game out for themselves to see if it's as bad as I claim it to be.
Either way, the company that owns the rights to that game franchise wins.

Yeah, I know some companies support LPs and whatnot.
But Nintendo's business policies are, as some would say, dated and/or just not very good. I remember (hopefully correctly) when Nintendo tried to pull Smash Brothers off of EVO (even with getting it on the lineup in that year involved fundraising for cancer research) before eventually allowing it. Ever since they got into the video game business they've been more or less playing by their own rules. It worked for the NES and SNES and once the N64 hit their methodology had slowly been biting them in the rear.
Given that the Wii U is doing rather poorly I think Nintendo should rethink their policies regarding choices that results in how ones view their image. But their too busy to do much of that.
