
I have no idea of why this American ground attack aeroplane was there.

The inflight refuelling door is on the nose, just in front of the cockpit windshield. It looks to me like the pilot or a boom operator from a refuelling aircraft might've got a bit too 'excited' when lining up to refuel, and knocked a big ol' dent into the A-10 with the refuelling boom.
