Yeah. Just sucks as we had been lead to believe that it's be fine to get a study visa coming from the working and Holiday visa, plenty of people have done it. Turns out that because she's from the USA rather than Canada/UK/Europe etc she actually has to leave the country to get the visa.

I thought you guys knew? Yeah you actually have to follow original visa and leave because reasons. NZ is close by?

There isn't a no further stay condition on her visa, meaning she can apply for one within Australia. But as it turns out, due to poorly worded things on the immigration site, the Working and Holiday visa from the USA can't go to a student visa without her leaving the country. She's not confident enough to travel to NZ or Bali (For example) by herself and my passport has expired.

Riiiiight. I see now. And yeah, you can't convert a visa from in Aus.
