I don't think I've ever uploaded a song literally as soon as I've finished it before, but I'm in a very good mood at the moment that seems to have boosted my songwriting drive - you might be able to guess why :) I'm sure I'll notice hundreds of mistakes as soon as it's up, but for now...
This is the first song for Unreality, and is unusually for me a title track - nothing to do with the Unreal series apart from the name, but you have to admit it's a nice logo. The point is probably quite obvious from the lyrics, and I always find it very difficult to actually explain songs, but... I wanted it to be about not being small-minded and a slave to what everyone else says, concentrating on all the negativity that you're bombarded with, and instead being your own person, thinking for yourself and finding what's good about being alive. Some people laugh at this as unrealistic, but there is good in the world if you look for it.
Six minutes long including a minute-long introduction section, this is an upbeat (though hopefully not too exaggeratedly happy) if longer than usual song to open the album. For this set of songs I've replaced a few of the drum instruments I use, possibly giving a slightly more realistic sound there, and you may also be hearing a few more synth instruments than normal combined with my usual library throughout.
Lyrics
There's something wrong with how you think
The hate and pettiness you feel
There's something wrong with how you see the world
And all of us
You take delight in every fault
Your mindless empty words assault
To reassure that you're above the rest
You surround yourself with torture and with pain
Fixed on the faults of others, shame and blame
To beat down, to destroy, to tear and desecrate
Its only purpose is to fill you up with hate
Stand above, stand apart
Find the glory of your heart
And the life you hold inside
From this hate break away
Join this unreality
Stay forever by our side
Don't ask why everything is wrong
You would be better off alone
Detach yourself from all the shrines of failure you see
Don't keep your fears within yourself
Stand up and let yourself be heard
Or you'll be caught inside the circle
And together we can be a better world
I see the makings of it everywhere
We will give you our hands, together for a time
To join our chorus with the princess of the earth
Stand above, stand apart
Find the glory of your heart
And the life you hold inside
From this hate break away
Join this unreality
Stay forever by our side
You surround yourself with torture and with pain
A false reality that's shown to you
There is good in this world, but you must seek it out
Together we can make it real
Stand above, stand apart
Find the glory of your heart
And the life you hold inside
From this hate break away
Join this unreality
Fly forever now
Running free, you will find
All the glory of your mind
And the life that you can be
Join us now, we can't wait
Stand above the fear and hate
Learn to think and feel
We can make it real
Fly forever free with me

Such is my fantastic memory that I can't even remember where I got the new drum samples from, a couple of months after finding them. I think they were possibly taken from an electronic instrument library that I got with my guitar-PC cable. This is written entirely electronically, so they're acting essentially as a drum machine.
And thanks a lot for leaving a comment and favourite - I hope that future releases continue to impress. :)

You know, I just noticed that while playing along to it myself this minute, and I'd been trying to make a conscious effort to avoid Canon in D this time around because I know it's so overused! He definitely came up with a lasting winner there, if it's unavoidable using it hundreds of years later in a completely different genre :)
I remember that from a while ago :) It's sometimes very difficult to avoid it, but it seems to work with so many things that it seems very easy to use it by accident.
As an added irony, it's also a very good exercise for practicing barre chords (see how his finger flattens across the fretboard in the middle of the sequence?) so I've also been playing it to myself enough to drive anyone round the bend.

If you want some interesting neo-classical stuff, try this - http://www.classtab.org/jsb1004h.txt
It's common to to hear in a classical guitarist's repetoire (i can only play part of it :P), but it'd be interesting to hear a rocker's take on it.

That might be an interesting one to try out! I listened to the violin version of it on Wikipedia and I recognize it, though I wouldn't have known it by name. I think there's little that absolutely can't be "converted", but the reactions of people who know the original piece might vary :)
Thanks so much - you've definitely made my good mood even better with that :) It may take me a while to get anything else from this set ready for release, but they're definitely on their way!
I use Modplug Tracker for my songwriting, with a library of samples built up/slightly stolen from other people's songs over the years. It's getting on a bit now, but after eight years of using it I've always found it a bit difficult to move on... (I'm also using Guitar Pro 5 for tablature now, though, and I'm planning to get tabs/plain MIDIs of these songs ready soon too.)

How appropriate, given recent current events!
Musically, this piece is amazing. I've yet to hear anything from you I don't like, but this is above and beyond, even for you. The slow intro adds a certain degree of emphasis and power just by its slowness--like that one Dragonforce song that's suddenly good for the last 30 seconds when they slow down, only your work is also good in the heavier parts. The mood set with with a suitably nice intro, it's very effectively elevated when the song picks up and really gets going, and thus the whole thing is suitably epic. Very amazing overall.

The evening a couple of days ago definitely provided the boost that got this song finished, though its subject was rooted (as much as any song's subject is rooted for me - often they change quite dramatically in the middle, and any sort of lyrical subtlety is just a result of me not even knowing what my own music is about) a while ago. I think I've probably said to you before, though, about my feelings on how negative we're encouraged to be - it's why I liked that fa_ftw community so much.
All power metal albums need an introduction section now, it seems :) I would probably have considered it a separate 'track', but uploading them separately wouldn't really have worked, and I couldn't think of a name for it anyway. Thanks a lot for your comments, again, and I hope the rest work out just as well!

Good? Well, the music rocks. Their vocals however, both the lyrics and the singing style are mostly funny.
Their former vocalist was something special though. A male with Italian accent and a voice so high pitched he probably could break glass with it. Listen to "Why Did You Killed The Princess" (I think it's on youtube somewhere) and you'll hear what I mean.

It wouldn't be pretentious power metal without helium-high vocals and lyrics that include character names like [White Warrior:]! I listened to that song - I can definitely hear what you meant about them :) But that's part of why I like it, you're allowed to do things like that.
I think that by far the most hilarious power metal band I've ever seen is Lost Horizon, who are just... indescribable. Any song will do to show you their lunacy, but usefully someone's put together a compilation of their singer's most unlikely screams. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2JM78x_T7g

Ahá! Here's where you've been! You've been inactive with SA, I thought you took off for good!
Anyways, once again a very much awesome song. The sounds are becoming more realistic as you continue with this; those new drums make quite a difference! I still find funny how you say you "accidentally" run into Pachelbel's canon, but hey, whatever works! :P
Brilliant job man.

Thanks, it's good to see you here again too :) I really appreciate your comments - it's nice to know the new drums are working.
I did sort of drift away from SA, though I do still plan to release things there (I often forget). I suppose I was rather disappointed at the shift away from music that the site seemed to make a while ago, bundling every piece of art in with each other and favouring visual art above all others as a consequence of its sheer volume.

Yeah, I noticed that too...I guess the day that happened was the day the music died on SA?
As for me, I am coming back after a long (too long lol) hiatus from everything. Now that I have college under control (to an extent, FYI, room-mates are assholes and cannot control their sexual urges to do it on the couch with their girlfriend), I decided it was high time to return. When I saw SA's music community diminished significantly, I decided to return to FA. It makes me wish DA had a music section...then again, would it be just like the visual art and there would be constant remixes of Naruto themes and One Winged Angel? ...scary thoughts are scary.

Hey why not upload your music on Limewire or something. I would love to but a couple of your album. When you get done with this one I'll buy an album, I really lover your music. It gets me feeling good. Trust me I've been in a slump and can't really do anything but listening to your music put me in a way better mode. I absolutely love this song, And Me'sa wants it
I'm glad to hear that my music can make someone feel good... thanks for saying that, it's really something special. :)
I had actually been thinking of offering people the chance to buy a packaged album rather than the individual downloads, but I didn't know if anyone would be interested enough to make it worthwhile! Maybe I'll see about doing that again... I'll have a look at Limewire, certainly.

This is extermely impressive... I really love the drums, I long to wrote drumlines that sound anywhere near as good as that....and all the melodies and everything just all go so well together; this has got to be one of the most impressive pieces I have heard here on FA.....I would love to hear this played by real instruments ^^
If you'd like, I can upload my drum samples somewhere (they've just been collected from all over the place over time) as a collection of WAVs, or an XI instrument, though I'm not sure if anything but Modplug still uses those any more.
And thanks a lot for listening, and for the compliments :) What I'm planning to do this time round is to convert the songs to GP5 as I go, so a tab of it should go up next (I was going to say 'soon', but... I haven't started it yet) and if I can get it to sound anything above hideous I might even upload an attempt at it on my guitar.

Drum samples would be awesome (I'm sure I can fins some way to use em ;) ), and if you do upload tabs, I bet my mate Aden would love to try playing some of em ^^......maybe he can even record a few and see what you think if you'd like :)......also, I can't stop listening to this, I love the melodies so much ^^
Here's a ZIP of my drum samples - http://www.clickteam.info/davidn/mu.....rumsamples.zip - as you'll quickly find, a lot of them are mis-named, as I got them from many, many different sources (most noticeably, a collection of splash cymbals labelled "Hat"). The ones I'm actually using at the moment, in general, are Dr_WBass and Dr_New[anything] .
And I'll get going on that tab version. :)

Thank you :) And for the watch, too!
This was made in Modplug Tracker ( http://www.modplug.com ), using a heap of samples/instrument files that I've built up over a few years.

Well, technically yes, you can use recorded guitar parts because it can arrange samples onto a "piano roll"-type arrangement, but it's really for electronic arrangements of music (there are no live instruments in this submission!)
For recording of the guitar (something that I've started on, but I only have a couple of examples of it up) I use an IK Stealthplug with Amplitube 2 Live amp simulation and Tracktion 2 for arrangement, both of which came free with the cable when I got it. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/stealthplug/features/
