Here we have a picture of Sheila Kanga as drawn by Danielle Sands. This is actually the second picture of her done by this particular artist because she found the character so much fun to work with. You can contact Miss Sands at www.sketchingsands.com
Here we see our toony spaceroo Sheila using her pouch as storage for the tools of her engineering trade. Unlike terran kangaroos, her pouch is not at all gross on the inside. It just holds what seems to be an incredible amount of storage space. (Players of the Toon role playing game can basically say her pouch is a "Bag of Many Things" shtick.)
Humorously, in one public room RP on F-List, someone managed to pull out characters from the show Star Trek: The Next Generation during a rather rowdy moment/barroom brawl scene. And the roo was definitely confused as to how Lwaxana Troi (among others) got into there without her noticing previously.

Kangaroo pouches are actually very soft, dry, and velvety. There is a lot of misunderstanding about this by the media and cartoons. I've held joeys in my arms and checked out the mother's pouch as well in person. The notion that they are gooey, wet, slimy, or otherwise gross is a complete myth.
As for pouches being bottomless, that's already established. Many roos link their pouches to Pouchspace, a pure Pouch to Pouch network, or a P2P system. :)

While I do agree that there is a lot of misunderstanding, the typical misunderstanding I see is that anyone can just go into the pouch for a ride.
Though I will concur that The Simpsons has probably taken artistic license the other way around (as that is, as far as I am personally aware, the only popular media source where the idea of it being gross inside the pouch comes from, and that came up specifically to "deconstruct" the assertion seen in other cartoons).
