Saul T Fox Reference
My scanner was not kind to the shade of red I used for his fur >.< I made sure to use the correct shades in the color swatches to the right on the top row. But despite that I'm rather happy with the way this turned out and the design ^^ In keeping with trying to build up some steam behind my uploads I present to you Salty the Fox, Fisherman, Adventurer, and Cabin Boy extraordinaire! He's one of Jyoo C Froot's closest friends.

Bio:
Born at sea as the runt of the litter of prominent whalers Captain Dogwood Tillstrand Fox and Alvilda Merrie Fox, Saul's early months of life were lived exclusively aboard ship as the couple were returning to their Home Port of White Sword Bay after upon Alvilda giving birth. Several months into their return trip home with a hold full of Whale, a terrible storm blew in and slowed the voyage in the deeper water. A vengeful whale of terrible size and strength living in the deeper water who preyed on passing ships took this chance to attack the Whaler's ship; using his tremendous size to cause waves on an incredible scale which battered the vessel. Seeing the Stricken vessel preparing to sink, the massive black whale surfaced a final time to consume the entire ship with all hands aboard and crushing the vessel in his razor sharp teeth.
By total chance and divine intervention, Saul managed to slip between the whale's teeth out into the water where he became bundled in seaweed and was washed atop some of the debris which floated him to safety in the harbor of Pelican's Bay; the whale only having chewed off his right leg. To this day, Saul claims he can remember the sound of the ship getting chewed to bits.
Upon his rescue, Saul T Fox was identified and put into the Pelican's Bay Orphanage when no next of kin were located. In spite of the events that transpired, Saul developed a deep love of the sea; considering that the Sea herself pried him free from the jaws of the whale, bundled him up, and saw him safely to land. Saul was adopted by his foster mother Charlotte Ann De Vupinette and made to attend school which he attended six years before dropping out to join the Pelican's Bay Navy. Easily acing most of the tasks and tests, Saul was given the rank of Cabin Boy and served the Navy for three months before being discharged for drinking salt water, combating officials, not adhering strictly to Navy approved procedures, and his strongly pirate sounding drawl. His consumption of sea water earned him the nickname of "Salty" and after his ejection from the Navy, Saul spent the next three years of his life doing odd jobs around the pier to afford his own accommodations outside of Charlotte Ann De Vupinette's cottage.
It was at this time that Pelican's Bay's top fisherman Balrog Greylocks, was threatening a strike as he felt that he deserved more money per pound than the other fishermen as he caught more; viewing himself as a celebrity of the Bay. Using his fame to try to scare his competition out of the waters, several Fishermen began selling their boats to avoid his considerable wrath. When an only wooden hulled Paddle Steamer called "Witherwood" became available, Saul jumped at the chance to Captain his own ship (unaware of the strike). Setting out to sea after buying the worn Steamer, Saul claimed to feel something calling him out into the deeper waters and unknowingly sailed into the waters of the beast that ate his family. Due to the Steamer's smaller size the beast almost didn't notice Saul's presence when it surfaced. Somehow remember the wail from the sounds of it's maw chewing on the keel of another ship, Salty engaged the monstrous whale for 13 hours before eventually tricking it close to a rock shelf hidden under the water. The whale failed to notice the Witherwood's position and, attempting to body slam the Steamer, broke its neck against the rocks in the shallower waters. When Salty hauled the carcass back to the harbor along with a full hold of fish, Salty unintentionally became the new big fisherman of Pelican's Bay; which earned him the scorn of Captain Balrog Greylocks with whom he is now locked in a long standing feud with. Salty has since spent his time fishing whatever he can find, hiring on three more people as crew, and having the Witherwood upgraded with refrigeration units.
Quirks: 1. Salty continues to this day to drink salt water while out at sea claiming that it doesn't effect him but rather breathes life into him. This is false as it only puts more of a strain on his mental state. Drinking regular water prevents any long term damage but usually causes him to become sleepy or drowsy afterwards but limits his insane outbursts. 2. Saul's primary diet consists of the chum he uses for bate which he identifies mistakenly as Bouillon. His breath is accordingly unpleasant at close ranges. 3. Salty has a considerable tempter at times which can be triggered at any moment without warning and he's very quick to tussle given his adventurous spirit. On occasion Salty will be a rather proficient (if not unorthodox) fighter, grabbing chairs and breaking them over people's backs, matching blows with larger pirates and sailors alike, and proving very hard to pin down; however this is a state that Saul writes off as "It comes and it goes" as more often he just sort of flails with his fists ineffectually. 4. Saul speaks with a HEAVY drawl that makes him sound like a Pirate. It is because of this that it can often be difficult to understand him or his analogies. 5. Salty refers to the sea as if it were a person and claims to be able to "Hear what she's saying" to the extent that he often stands at the bow of his ship just listening to the noises of the water. 6. Saul is an avid lover and player of the accordion.

I think of Saul every time I hear this track from Jersey Devil. X3

Lol yeah cartoony for sure. They actually have rats wearing striped sailor shirts and hook hands in the Harbor level that music is from that kinda remind me of Saul actually lol. But yeah that game has really nice music.
Oh I know, sometimes it sucks wondering if anyone actually gives your characters any thought outside of the pictures they've appeared in. I know for one I was shocked how popular some of my characters hot that people told me they thought of them outside in daily life. So I thought I'd share the love. Honestly I wish I could do it even better, but sometimes it's hard to keep track of all the billions of characters you have. XD
I know it's a lot of work, but actual dialogue and situations playing out make characters a ton more memorable then single pictures. Getting to see them interact with others, see how they act and talk.. it really lets you know the character and how they are better then any still image could. I think that's why my characters from Comics are so much more popular then characters I've only ever made character sheets for like the computer virus characters or the Scymanterians. You should think about trying to make some comics with these characters sometimes. :)

lol yeah that sounds about up Saul's alley!
Well thanks man! I really appreciate it lol and I know XD I do have quite a bit of them. Thus the problem of having an entire universe of characters XD
Oh man it's been ages since I've done a traditional comic. I really should sit down and try to mock on up some time! I know with the zany antics of my furry crew it would at least be entertaining. But I completely agree, comics help flesh out the characters and leave a more lasting imprint of the character's personality on people. I may just give that a go after Megaplex.
