A last minute gift for growltiger and lionpanthera, who were extraordinarily generous and made Casey and I's anniversary celebration/very belated honeymoon possible <3 Inspired by/referenced from a super-cute picture by DaffoDille, I originally wanted to do something similarly toony and adorable, but after doing the background, I felt a more serious style would work nicely :3

That is one sexy lion. I LOVE the full graceful trace of his spine. Backs are way too neglected, perhaps because of the subtlety required to show them off. Quite some haunches too - as one would expect from a wild lion.
I'm really glad you went with the realistic look. Their heads/faces are gorgeously detailed, and even the subtle color variation of the lion's body is very appealing. Though, Growltiger has the better expression
Probably shoulda been a little nut hanging into view, but I guess you wanted the self-censors to be able to see too. Still probably my favorite thing in either of their galleries, though I noticed not the only one by Jocarra!

Hehe, I'm glad you like them! Yeah, lions (males especially) really have a particular hefty massiveness to them that I wanted to make sure I got. And I'm glad I went with the realistic look, too! I was worried at first it'd come out too flat without the time to really get into painting too much, but it turned out fine (all the practice with semi-realistic Endless Realms style stuff is paying off :b).
