Cardboard as a base for paper mache. It's solid cardboard with one white side and one brown side and the paper I'm using is very thin, unwaxed parchment paper. ^w^ It works really well. Also, the paste is gluten free as it's made with corn starch, sugar, and distilled white vinegar in water. (there was a bit more to it than that, but you get the idea. XD)
