The ghost of Blotch-ness past
The ghost of Blotchness past
Thousands of years ago, in a time of legend and myth, there arose a furry god called
blotch
Furries everywhere came to worship at the altar of Blotch and fell down before the mighty throne and gave lots of praise and money. In return, they received rains from heaven, and a bountiful crop… of peen. Yes, with Blotch all things were possible.
Even today, I think you still have to have Blotch listed as one of your favorite artists in order for your “furry card” to be issued. In fact, the general order of listed faves on the typical user page is as follows:
Blotch,
zaush, and [censored]
To deny Blotch was to be a heretic. I mean, sure… the adherents wouldn’t necessarily come after you with burning torches and pitchforks like they do on Roo-kiss' page… but still… there was always pressure to conform… or convert to the cult of Blotch. Whether you wanted to or not.
Yes, it was Blotch’s world, and we just lived in it. And then… then it all… stopped.
The unthinkable has happened. Blotch is dead. By what uncanny means, I do not know. It happened a couple of years ago. The submissions ended. Your prayers went unanswered. Even now, loyal furries still present the fruitage of their lips at the altar for our dearly departed Blotch. Many of them are just realizing only now that the temple of Blotch is empty. They are beginning to ask: “Where are you? Blotch, we are lost without you.” Or, perhaps the old stand-by: “Does anyone know what happened to Blotch?”
I have no idea. If you know, please enlighten me. But lacking any useful information, I’ll stretch this out with my own musings. As you may know, this is not my first mention of Blotch. If you enjoyed my story: “Furry Fan Fiction: The Unconventional challenge” then you are already familiar with my impressions of said artist, along with some other personalities of FurAffinity. In truth, I knew little about Blotch. I once heard a rumor that Blotch was a team of female artists. Since then, I always pictured two little old biddies sharing a house with a bunch of cats, holding glasses of wine and hovering over an easel whilst debating how big the penis should be. It turns out I was not too far from the truth. If I had looked at Blotch’s user page sooner, I would have found this link: http://www.screwbald.com/?page_id=16
A holy grail of sorts, it contains the saga of Blotch, a team composed of “Teagan” and “Tess”. The two ladies live together in Denver and they share pictures of themselves and details about their collaborative process and how many years they have been working together. Whether they are still together...or still working together, I don’t know. And I don’t know what led to Blotch’s demise. Picking over the stale carcass of Blotch is now a matter for secular historians to debate. The days of Blotch are gone; file them under the days of Blotchness past.
Which brings us to the ghost of Blotchness present. Otherwise known, at least in part, as:
kenket, or Tess Garman.
Kenket is a sprig that quickly sprung from the now deeply rooted stump that is Blotch. In other words: Blotch-lite. I don’t know any more about Kenket than I do about Blotch, but the art looks the same. Kenket, or “Tess” as the profile name shows, opened her account only a couple of weeks after Blotch did, way back in September of 2006, where she languished for many years in Blotch’s formidable shadow. The family tree continued to grow, however, spawning
nordguard in april of 2009. “Nordguard is simply a pit-stop page directing people to her collaboration novel of the same name. Next, we have
doublediamond conceived in april 2015, which features her creepy My Little Pony drawings. Wise of her to keep that out of her main page. Thank goodness for small blessings.
The other ghost of Blotchness present is Teagan Gavet, known as
blackteagan, opened up in October of 2006, just after Kenket's account. She refers to Blotch as her "secret" other life, or her dual alter ego. Unlike Kenket, Blackteagan does not appear to have spawned other accounts on FurAffinity. Blackteagan's account mostly sticks to commissions and projects that she has worked on, such as "HEAT". Currently, she is consumed with that "Oren's Forge" comic.
Now we come to the ghost of Blotchness future… and the future starts now. Kenket has now teamed up with
-lofi
-lofi is an artist from Sarasota, Florida, who set up his user page in march of this year. He has done collaborative streaming with other artists including
stigmata
Apparently –lofi and Kenket hooked up about two months ago and hit it off. The result is they have teamed up to create a user page called
hax
The page is only a month old and already they have been quite busy putting up 17 submissions. They have well over 5000 watchers.
Will Hax be the new Blotch? Will Blotch be resurrected from the dead? I don’t know, but at least the faithful have a new altar for their worship.
Love, -D
