GC had this Epiphone Les Paul Junior on sale for a hundred bucks a little while ago, and I couldn't resist. I put a Gibson '57 Classic pickup in it, which was more expensive than the actual guitar. Priorities. I have them.

I think it sounds a lot brighter, clearer, and more articulate. Through a clean amp, you can really tell; it just sings. And with gain, whereas the stock pickup went straight to sounding really heavy and crunchy, the '57 Classic has this sweet spot where it comes alive. Of course, the more distortion or effects you use, the less pronounced the difference is.
nice axe! though it's an epiphone, isn't it too heavy? Of all the epiphones I tried they all had a serious weight problem that just made it impossible to even think of gigging with one.
also as it's a 1 pickup guitar it can be great to test hand-wound pickups if you ever make some ^^

It's a slab of mahogany, so yeah it's got some weight to it. Good for sustain, though. And if people gigged back in the day with the original LPs that weighed like 10 pounds, this ain't nothing. Just gotta get a comfortable strap. This doesn't have the maple top like a regular Les Paul, so I think it saves a little weight there, anyway.
I doubt I'll ever get around to making my own pickups, but it is good for testing. I've already replaced the pickup once, and I intend to try a different one as soon as I feel like throwing another $150 at it.
