Furnal Equinox 2016 - Day 3
It was inevitable that someone would be "cursed" with a humiliating combination. And it seems that
was the unlucky furry at the table. Like hilariously unlucky.
Fortunately, he was a good sport about it, and we all had a heck of a laugh at how that progression flowed.
BACKSTORY/EXPLANATION
At 5:00pm, we few Supersponsors that were taking part in the con'spoorly-organised yet somewhat interesting decoding challenge throughout the weekend had one final contest to tackle. Five rounds of a mystery card game would determine who would win the grand prize... Well, actually, with the amount of time it took for all of us - who were new to such a game - to get through even one round, we just settled on making it the only round we played.
The name of the game... was "Superfight." Think of it as a PG-13 Cards Against Humanity with a lot of debating/arguing (playfully and in good fun, of course). The player is to pick up three white and three black cards. He/she then discards two of each colour, leaving one white and one black card. The white card bares a hero's name. The black card bares a hero's attribute; it could either be something totally helpful, or it could be something completely useless and hilariously humiliating. The player then argues his/her case against the other players as convincingly as possible as to why their hero would win in a fight. Then there's another moment of black-card drawing (optional if the player himself/herself wishes to view it before revealing it), and when it's the player's turn, the mystery card is revealed as his/her hero's secret hidden power. From there, the player once again tries to convince the other players how it'll help with what his/her hero already has. For extra spice, a person assigned as a judge then draws one white and one black card. This sudden two-card combo becomes the enemy the heroes have to fight; the players then try to convince the judge how his/her hero will beat the villain. Whoever has the best excuse wins the point (or in the case of miscalculating how long that one round would take to complete, whoever had the best excuse won the game).
Long story short, I didn't win. Fortunately us finalists all received custom Furnal Equinox-inspired Superfight cards called "FurnalFight" with some funny and adorably creative attributes, so at least we all got something cool and unique out of it. But I feel said small decks kind of prove pointless unless we were to win the grand prize which ended up being a complete set of Superfight plus extra franchise packs (not bad).
What you are looking at right now is one of many photos taken at this year's
with the fantastic theme choice of "Furry Superheroes."
This year in particular was my fifth furry convention I've ever attended.
