These are the last three I plan on totally redesigning besides anyone related to characters I've already changed. Herman, Mary and Rochester are rats, and Defylar and Doug are Almiraj. I mostly want to get the new species out of the way first.
I'll start with the middle character: Carbuncle. The way I've written Carbuncle, she basically is just a glorified phoenix. With that in mind, I changed her into a phoenix. And yet... I feel like her old design was more original. ...But then again, it didn't make a whole lot of sense.
On the right is Mr. Jules. I haven't truly changed his species, but I DID change the species itself. I took a little inspiration from the Roman goddess Enpanada/Panda, who is the goddess of charity and hospitality: two things that define Mr. Jules. Tanuki are often classified as "Raccoon Dogs," but the whole time I was trying to redesign Mr. Jules, I had a hard time getting Giant Pandas out of my head, until I realized "Who said it needed to be GIANT Pandas? Why not a RED Panda?" So I changed him to look more like a Red Panda, and even tried to throw in some Terrier features like an absolutely ADORABLE mustache. And of course, let's not forget that equally adorable giant tail. In addition to the Red Panda bit covering one of her names, Mr. Jules now serves "Enpanadas" as a reference to her more recognizable name.
Finally, on the left, Trenton. I decided to base him off a Winter Warg because I wanted to stick with a canid of some sort. From what I've read, Winter Wargs are as big as bears, and I decided to give him some beefy, bear anatomy. Besides, it wouldn't be him without those meaty muscles. ...However... I am still trying to figure out what I'm going to name him. The name "Salobal" has got to go.
Edit: How long have I been calling Salobal Mr. Jules? I decided on the name Trenton for him.
