Re-uploaded because it wouldn't let me change the file, and I needed to fix the apostrophes.
This is an older story. I wrote it my first year on college, which puts it waaaaay back in 1996 or 1997. Yeah. I intend to completely re-write it at some point, but for now I'm more concerned with finishing the series, then I'll go back and improve things.
It's one of a series of knight-dragon-maiden stories encompassing every possible variation of "knight saves maiden from dragon." This one is "maiden saves dragon from knight".

Rather... cute, I may say. This story is a good example of a short story, which in its shortness is much more flexible than a novel. In a way, this is somewhat unorthodox little tale, it clearly tells a story, but there is no goal or destination, in some sense this is just a slice-of-life piece in a fantasy setting.
I had difficulties to find real conflict from the story, some force that spurred the characters forward. It seems like they are floating through the incidents. There is one very small conflict between the daughter and the father upon the dragon stone and another one between the highwaymen and the family, but these both are dealt quickly, it seems the characters didn't really have to fight to get through them.
The protagonist or the first person narrator of the story is a bit bland, in a way, she has very little real, sharp opinions about anything, she pretty much says how things are, there is very little real emotion in the character. In a way, it feels like the happenings of the story are so far behind she has no emotional bond to them anymore.
Interesting take to the maiden-knight-dragon setting. Now somebody must write a story where the knight saves the dragon from the maiden or the dragon saves the knight from the maiden.
Anyway, nice little story, interesting and somehow... perfect. This story has a real ending, it really doesn't give any doubt about that. No open doors, threads... just... ending. Good work.
