Hunchback of Notre Dame - God Help The Outcasts - *Cover*
This is one of my favorite, most earworm-inducing songs from this classic Disney musical. After covering "Out There", I wanted to try this song as well. Even though I'm not religious myself, I love the spirit of the message behind this prayer: wondering where kindness, justice, and mercy is for those most in need of it from a supposedly all-loving and omnipresent God. There are so many potential answers to this question, and my intent isn't to try to open a religious discussion so much as to just sing what I feel is a movingly beautiful song.

I am still surprised that the music from this film was not even nominated for an Oscar. Not only is this a lovely song (I did use it in The Beach Bears Story, after all) but the lyrics were top notch. Well, except for one line in the exposition song, The Bells Of Notre Dame: "Even THIS foul CREATURE MAY yet prove one day to BE OF USE to me". If you read only the words in all caps, it means exactly the same. The rest is fluff to fill in to the already established melodic line. But the contrapuntal melodic lines in Hellfire: "It's not my fault / mea culpa (it's my fault)". Pure genius.
I love so many songs from this musical. I may yet do "Hellfire" and "The Bells of Notre Dame," though the latter would definitely challenge my upper register at the end.
Something else I found surprising about this song in particular is that you and I are the ONLY ones on FA to cover it to date. I figured there'd be quite a few more.
