Reinfeld: the living machine
The following is for a contest that
mastertoymaker is hosting over on DA and one of the main goals of said contest is to develop a character for a possible story arc. What you see above is the character I made for his contest. And to go with that picture, I've included some background info.
Dr. Stanley Reinfeld was a scientist that worked for Omega Industries, a major R&D (research and development) company. He exclusively specialized within the field of nanorobotics, the creation and manipulation of microscopic robots, and his research was largely based on creating nanomachines that could not only cure various diseases but also vastly improve one's physical abilities; thus making the person stronger, faster, and even smarter than ever thought to be possible. Unfortunately, during an experiment, there was a power outage within the facility and the nanomachines escaped their force field containment unit. The nanobots instantly swarmed all over him, invading every single fiber of his being. Reinfeld died from the sheer shock to his system but his story didn't end there. Shortly after the nanobots killed him, they went to work reconstructing him on a cellular level. Organic tissue began to combine with highly advanced nanomachinery, and after a single day, they had brought Reinfeld back from the dead. He awoke in the city morgue, his skin now cold and metallic and his eyes glowing with a soft red hue. Reinfeld wasn't human anymore; he was now some kind of human/machine hybrid, a mechanical abomination, and such a fact both horrified and disgusted him.
He quickly left the morgue and went into hiding, for fear that society would no longer accept him and may even try to destroy him. A few days later, Reinfeld discovered why the power went out in his laboratory. The city's resident superheroine, Trans, had gotten into a fist-fight with Pounce, another known super, while near a power plant. The plant's generators were badly damaged during the fight, which caused black outs all around the city. After learning this information, Reinfeld deduced that it was the two supers that caused the power outage in his lab and thus were the ones responsible for his deformity. From that day forward, he swore he would have his revenge on both Pounce and Trans. He vowed to destroy the two supers as well as anyone else who dared to get in his way.
Superpowers:
Reinfeld possesses mildly enhanced strength, speed and endurance but not enough to be considered truly super-athletic (at most he could only lift about 1,000 pounds and run 40 mph). Reinfeld's real power is derived from his techno-organic body and from the nanomachines that lurk within it. For instance, he can breakdown any machine and then turn into any weapon of his choosing. Typically it would be something like turning a hairdryer into a heat-ray arm blaster or transforming a cell phone into some kind of noise grenade. Another power he has is the ability to hack any computer by linking to it with his mind. He does this by placing his hand on the computer and then thinking his way through its firewall defenses. It takes him only moments to hack even the most well-protected computer. Lastly, Reinfeld can regenerate from any injury by breaking down and absorbing any kind of metallic object; he can also increase his own size and strength by absorbing metal so long as there is enough metal readily available.
Weaknesses:
Like most electronic devices, Reinfeld is susceptible to an EMP (electromagnetic pulse). If he's hit with an EMP, he'll shut down and will remain offline until he reboots himself; which usually takes several days, sometimes even several weeks, to do. He can also be defeated via magnetism. Reinfeld's body is highly magnetic and if there is a strong enough magnetic field, he'll stick to whatever object is generating the field, thus rendering him motionless. Another of his weaknesses would be his own regeneration ability. In order to heal his injuries, he'd have to absorb metal. If there isn't any metal available, then he can't regenerate. Furthermore, whenever he absorbs metal, his body takes on some of the properties of that particular metal. So if he were to absorb a lot of aluminum, then his body would be about as durable as aluminum. This concept also applies to various other metals and alloys like iron, gold, bronze and steel. Lastly, Reinfeld can't swim; his body is much too heavy to actually float. So if he fell into a container of water, he would sink to the bottom and then drown.
That's about it for the character. I hope you guys found him interesting.
