For me personally it kinda has waves/phases on how often it happens. It's not super bad lately, but sometimes you get people super persistent.
Other times if I'm offering free requests, it backfires and people become super entitled about it like I HAVE to choose their request. Or if they don't win a raffle/etc.
So basically when I was trying to really get going with doing art as a commission based thing I got requests frequently. It's gradually become a bit less often, like probably an average of once a week? if that. It'll be like I'll have a month without someone asking, and then like in the span of 2 days 7 different people ask. X_x

So. Fucking. Accurate.
I remember the days when I used to participate in free art raffles or request journals back when I was lurking on FA. Holy shit, the temper tantrums I witnessed when peeps requests were skipped over or the artist finished taking requests before getting to certain people. That is one of the reasons why I dislike free art opportunities. Only time I like them is if IโM the one hosting such and I pay an artist to draw arts of one of my characters doing things with a lucky winner. Tis why I prefer giving artistsโ my monies! X3

Have you ever gotten the MASSIVE copy-paste note that comes around every so often asking for free art, but the description is like FOURTY MILES LONG?
I answered politely back the first time, but now I just laugh.
I actually don't like raffles for one reason, though I still do watcher ones or in-stream ones on rare occasions -- I always feel bad for the people who don't win -- as if I let them all down, you know? Silly since you're offering a chance at something free, but that's how it feels. And you know at least a few people are bummed out about it. (Same idea; "I never win...")
I had a guy win a raffle once and instead of asking for changes when I sent the image offering free changes if needed, he RAGED at me and told me just how shitty he thought I was for not getting his ref perfectly accurate despite the fact that it was unclear. Needless to say, I don't put up with that shit and I told him very, very politely to fuck right off, in kinder words, and took him out of the piece. He has a history of being completely unreasonable with people, though. I felt bad for him, since if your personality is THAT damaged, it must be hard to interact at all.
Thanks for drawing another relatable thing! XD

OH!
I also get this, a little different -- when people come to you wanting to be 'friends' on telegram or whatever chat program, and they go 'Hey, how's your day?' and you go "Oh, it's been" --- "THAT'S NICE Hey by the way can you draw me this free thing? It'll only take a little while! And can you change your patreon to specifically draw things for all your patrons with this specific character for me? I know I only pledged one dollar one time, but it's not a big deal right?"
... And then when you try multiple times to politely decline, even doing a small edit on a piece for them because you feel sorry for them, and they still keep asking.
And then when you finally have to go "Look man, I have no problem with you but I literally can't keep talking to you about why I can't give you free art when THIS IS MY JOB AND I GET PAID TO DO ART FOR PEOPLE", and you see them a few minutes later with a status, or a journal post, that goes "Why are artists always so stuck up? They only make friends with other artists, etc etc."
It blows me away how people can do this, and not see how you'd be irritated at the end of it. MOST of my friends on chat programs are past clients that I got to know - they're just the respectful ones who don't always ask for free stuff. That's not what a 'friend' is -- hell, most of my close friends are the ones who actually tip the most because they know how much time goes into art and they actually care about you as a friend. XD
/rant -- I hear you all too well. :)

GOD I remember this bullshit happened to a lot of people back when Moonstarpim was still a thing. Thankfully she was swiftly banned after she started harassing a lot of the artists here for free shit and calling them bullies for not giving her said free shit. It was frankly quite shameful especially considering that she claimed to be like 24? Maybe 28 years of age? And she also claimed to still not have a job? It amazes me just how immature some of those types of people can be.
yea ive seen people do this before on deviantart and here , its disgusting how ive had this happen to me a few times , I used to do requests and ask for them but not anymore unless its a close friend whos asking me , people these days just don't read profile info or ever get the message , its annoying.... :/
but very funny comic xD , love yer raptor ^^ raptors fo life!

My now ex bf used to get legit upset at me if I didn't draw him something but instead worked on commission's and even got upset at me for drawing an image that was slightly different than the idea because they weren't wearing sweaters.
This is a guy I drew 300+ drawings for because we dated for 3 years and i was in love with him but now that I look back on it he was petty as fuck to try to get me to draw him free shit.
He'd also get in the way of my commission's and guilt trip me about being "lonely" because I would draw.
Glad I'm out of that now.

I'd love free art from certain artists done to my requested specs. Oh, how I'd adore it!
But you know something? I long ago realized they're busy people, conducting a life while they make so much art of that quality... often for other people who actually help them make a living doing it!
So I'll wait for when the artists want to bring up the possibility of drawing free art for our requests.
