Sun in Splendour - indoor photo
A photo of it indoors under our more yellow lighting. Its interesting how the colors change depending on the time of day and the type of lighting.
For those who didn't see my other submission of the same piece, this is an oil painting commission I did of a London pub called Sun in Splendour, at closing time with a young couple lingering out front, not wanting the night to end.
The painting is done with oils on canvas, 30"x40", and about 140 hours of work total. This is the 2nd longest I've taken on a piece before - the first being Femme Fatale at about 150 hours.

Not a big fan of yellow lights, but Damn, the indoor pic really does bring out more depth throughout the entire painting. Can see even more detail, and looks even better than the outdoor, except for the curse of the yellow lights. *Looks at the light in his apartment, barks*
I did expect that it would happen - because I've painted a large predominantly dark painting before - and brighter lights brought out the brighter colors... "California Dreamin" is the one I mean - with the golden gate bridge - my parents have the original at their house and they have it under track lighting with a dimmer switch - and its really interesting to see how the painting changes appearance as the lights dim or brighten.
I think all my big paintings so far have looked very different under different lightings - but its most prevalent with the darker night-scene ones.
While I work on my paintings, I have a halogen lamp for a lightsource, so its rather bright

My gosh, some parts look like they were air brushed on like the lights. How on earth did you pull that off with oils? O.o That is just astounding. If you say you did a technique I have been theorizing for a while now with oils, that may very well give me the idea of how to do a groundbreaking traditionally made macro(phile) painting.
I have no regrets in saying your are the best anthro artist but this makes me want to say you are the best traditional artist I can communicate with. This is just awesome.
I am only familiar with the Bob Ross painting style where all the painting is done in one shot. I am not familiar with doing oils otherwise, so I have to ask. How many days/weeks/months did this take you of painting for a while then letting it dry and move on?
And if I may ask one last question. How did you do the straight edges so well? They look too perfect for them to be done just by brush alone. The curved edge leaves me to believe some sort of tape was used.
Again, you skills and your use of them along with your dedication is phenomenal. Keep up the excellent work!
