I'd been fiddling around in another program and decided to try some different things. Not even new, just different.
I'm always certain of where I want the lighting to be coming from so I started with colored shadows, really light and close to white at first; getting darker and more saturated towards the edges (notice the purple on the chest at the base of the neck). Shadow layer set to Multiply
All of the shading and most of the highlights were done with FireAlpacas watercolor brush, Color Mixing around 70% Compliment around 60%. Less compliment towards the end for blending along with sporadic use of the blur tool.
In total there are two layers of shadow, one for shading on the blues, one for the chest tan. And two layers of highlighting, one is the large broad strokes, some with a light green tinge to them, one with only the very brightest white glints. Highlight layers set to Add.
aaaaaand I really enjoy shading, so about an hour of fiddling, two re-starts, and a couple whole bunches of fun.
