After the Sexaclysm happened 4,000 years ago and all human men were killed, the remaining human females either mated with monster girls and their offspring were monsters, or they died alone resentful and full of regrets.

These human souls ended up not being able to pass on and their souls wandered the earth as will-o-wisp monster girls. Soulless husks of fire without any emotion or sentience that float around. Eventually, whether it be 10 years or 10000, a Will-o-wisp gains enough self awareness that she Sexomorphs into a new Spirit type monster.

The new spirit monster has *no* memory of her time as a human but vestiges still remain. Similar appearance, memories of liking something but not being sure why. That sort of thing. But they don't remember life before the Sexaclysm.

Of course who they were in life does effect what sort of Spirit they become. Playful, lonely girls end up being normal common Ghosts, pranksters become Poltergeists, and the ones with more issues end up as Boogeymen and worse. Vex has become one of these worse spirits.
