A size 6" x 9" commission for
of her character Moo and her friend
's character having some fun at the local Renaissance Faire as pirates. Arrrr!
I used a couple photos from google for reference for the costumes and the building in the background - actually, the building is from the Arizona Ren Faire, which I have been to many times. =) So it has a little taste of home...or rather, what used to be home.
I had a bit of trouble figuring out how to get that hat to sit right on Moo's head, so if it looks a little funny its cuz pirate hats aren't made for horns. =P
Also trying out a new coloring style, which I'm liking so far because I don't have to obsess over every little leaf and twig and blade of grass. I can go with a more stylized look, something slightly cartoony even, and still have it look real-ish. I'm using my markers a bit more now too, along with the colored pencils for blending and texturing.
Huzzah! XD

Oh, I LOVE it! You got a TON of detail into not a lot of paper, wow! Both characters look lovely, and the expressions are perfect. You even managed to like, channel our actual costumes, too - ha! I'm loving the little details, like the braids in Moo's chin-whiskers, the key around his neck, and even the lacing on E's corset! And I'm totally have to get out to that Arizona faire one of these days, too, the set looks lovely! Thank you so much, I can't wait to show this to her!!!
Yay! Yeah detail is my thing, even on small paper. ;)
The Arizona Ren Faire is really nice...the buildings are set up year round, though the faire itself only runs on weekends in February and March. Its a pretty good size too, at least compared to the faire we have in Muskogee.
Moo was my first goat...sheep...ungulate? hehe. I guess for a first attempt it wasn't too shabby.

I've heard that the Colorado faire is pretty similar to that, with a year-round location despite a short faire duration. Interesting that it's so early in the year, too. My local faires are all temporary structures, aka little wooden huts - not quite the same pzazz!
As for Moo being your first ungulate - I think he came out charmingly! You did a great job with that facial bone structure and those horns especially!
I'll be noting you in the next few days to talk about some stained glass stuffs. I am starting to figure out my studio schedule for December and since one of my trips feel through, I'm going to have a bit more time than I thought initially. You planning on going to FurtherConfusion, by any chance?

I'm starting to plan for December as well, I'm going to mainly use it for personal projects and any trades I've been planning with people, yourself included.
I won't be at FC, probably the only cons I'll be getting to is Oklacon and Wild Nights, which are both local and very affordable. I like them cuz they are more outdoorsy, I don't know that the whole hotel con thing really sounds very appealing to me. Maybe someday though, if I have the time and money and a way to get to a bigger con...maybe when I'm a little more famous.
Oklacon was my first con actually...and it was awesome. If you've never been you should come out some time, its really fun. =)
