I actually wrote this about two years ago in a creative writing class. We had a certain amount of time to choose one item to take back to our desks and write about. I was originally torn between a tarot card and a velvet cloak, but at the last second picked the jester's hat. I had no idea what I was going to write on it, and just went with my first thoughts before it developed into one of my favorite pieces.
