Taking a break from my school assignments, I wanted to do some sketching in Photoshop. This is my fursona's mouse toy for anyone who doesn't know; given to me by rigormortis of course. I pretty much never work in just black and white, so I played with some hatching instead of my usual colouring and shading style. Just a little thing I did to take a break for 5 minutes.
Now it's story time! You can ignore this if you like, it doesn't necessarily have much to do with the drawing, but I feel like sharing it. ---
In my opinion, there are few things that appear more sad and lonesome than a lost or abandoned toy. Something that someone used to love and care for and spend time with, tossed away and left to its fate.
A few weeks ago I was driving home on the highway, and I happened to notice along the road, perched on top of a guardrail, was a teddy bear. I passed by it rather quickly of course, but as I kept driving, I couldn't help but think about what that teddy bear was doing sitting on the side of the highway. I imagined someone may have stopped when they had car trouble; let their kid out of the car to stretch their legs, where maybe the child set it there and forgot to grab it before they left. I imagined someone may have been playing with the bear in the car with the window rolled down, and somehow it got tossed out the window; then someone else found it along the road and sat it up on the rail. Multiple scenarios ran through my head about how and why that bear might have gotten there. And then what? If it was lost accidentally, how long was it before the owner realized it was gone? How upset were they to realize their teddy bear was missing? Already miles behind, the bear just sits and waits, watching the countless cars go by...
The bear sat on that guardrail for about three days, then it was gone.
Have you ever lost a toy that meant a lot to you?

I still have quite a few of the toys from my childhood as well. I had a bunch of little plastic animals I'd play with all the time. I was always pretty attached to them. I lost a few over the years, was often upsetting when I did. :P It's kinda funny how much emotional attachment we can have to our toys.
dang it, you olmost made tears come to my eyes, it is really sad, i actualy, when i had a house of my own, used to adopt stray toys and give them stories and name, and sometimes i found out where they belong and than i gave them back, it makes me sad when i loose one of my own toys, my mom wasent nice, and didnt realize that kids attach memories to toys, so she threw everything away from before i was adopted, toys are made to be loved.
I got sick so easily as a kid :(
I really hated having to clear out old stuff in my room, be it stuffed animals, toys, games, random bits of paper...even though I knew I never played with that toy or whatever was scrawled on that paper was no longer needed...
It still tore me up inside >.<
