Returning to the Andur dreamscape. In a recent posting I had mentioned that at
Tom_Clowder villa one of essential members of the household was the Matriarch. http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2978566 Since she is a widower who has lost all her children, she has sort of adopted the fennecs who work at Tom's villa as her new children.
Now fennecs are simple folks who don't demand much of the world around them, but one thing they seem to have a universal craving, desire, passion for is dates. This makes them handy rewards/ treats to give hard working fennecs for a job well done. But how many should you give them? Left to their own devices many fennecs will eat dates until they sick to their stomachs! The Matriarch came up with a simple solution. You give them a ear length of dates.
Now fennecs are not very big but they do have large ears for their size. So an "ear length" of dates makes for a fine treat! Of course if they eat them all at once you have a fennec bouncing off the walls but nothing is perfect. Now if the fennecs had their way the dates would placed side by side, but the Matriarch has decided they should be placed end to end. Therefore you often have fennecs measuring their ears to see if one is longer than the other so they can get the most dates for a job well done!

I like the picture. Until I read the entry it looked more like he was incredibly fascinated by some cooking process she was doing.
It's a great and practical way of measuring out a reward that all-in-all would seem very fair to the Fennecs involved. I'm certain they're very proud of their ear length and might even use the Date as a unit of measurement when bragging to their friends.
"My ears are seven dates long." "Really? Mine are about ten Dates Long."
Reminds me of a joke where three brave soldiers who had gotten wounded in a particularly brutal engagement were to be compensated by given one pound of sterling silver for each inch of distance between any two parts of their bodies they chose.
The first said "From my toes to the top of my head."
He was measured and paid.
The second sad "From my left hand to my right"
He was measured and paid.
The third indicated from his groin to the tip of his genitalia.
When they went to measure they noticed his genitals were missing.
When questioned as to where they were he said "Back on the battlefield sir."
