Wow, loved it. First time I see fairies and ferrets mixed together, quite obvious in retrospective.
I still have some troubles picturing the steel beast, at first I thought it would be some kind of mechanical thing make alive by magic, but latter descriptions make it look more like a armored organic beast, so I'm not sure.
I love the depth your taking with this story, for besides the main plot you have introduced a lot of elements that really capture readers attention, from you unique take on magic as an almost tangible substance, to the peculiar situation of the world and Lagan village in particular (not to mention Jax and Rea relationship). And we can't forget the first chapter of the series, and wonder when the event in that one will come crashing on us.
I liked a lot how you portrait the faerrets, their playful and jumpy nature really comes thru, even the supposedly "serious" guards give me a chuckle, not to mention the Six Mile Long Grand Stoat Bartle-bit, Supreme Ruler of All Faerretkind.
Keep on the great work, congratulations.

I'm happy you like it, Tod. :)
I was picturing it as a mixture of both: mechanical and organic, as if someone built it...
The way I see it, if you're going to write a fantasy story, make it fantastic, intricate, and unique. That's how our world is, so why would a world of magic be any less? :) And you won't have to wait very long to see this tie back to the first chapter. I have two more chapters almost complete which will be posted soon.

to thank for dreaming up the faerrets with me. Cute magical creatures are her forte. The faerrets are a lot of fun to write, even the "serious" ones! I'll certainly be including more of them in the future.

It's good to see more of this series, what with it's original portrayal of magic, magical ferret-noodles of infinite length, and what not... Gotta love the infinite noodles. Then again, Stoat can have infinite length, and infinite length = infinite mass. Infinite mass = black hole, and an infinitely large black hole! And if Star Trek has taught us anything, it's that black hole = TIME PARADOX. That means that Lord Stoat can occupy all of space and time!
... So try not to piss him off.

How awesome! The gang decides to leave their village and hunt after the presumably evil bats.
And with silly faerrets, overly aggressive steal beasts and abandon ruins the outside world sure has alot to offer. As TodNaturlich so eloquently expressed it; you are taking new depth with this chapter introducing alot of new interesting elements.
The faerrets in particular were hilarious! They are funny, playful and silly and could serve as the series' breakout characters standing for all the gags. Their tendency to also change their names whenever they change color is also alot of fun.
However I cant help but wonder when Rea will ever find his poor feline boyfriend again and continue what they started in the first chapter. ;)

Yes-yes-yes! The faerrets are in the tale just as the tails are on the faerrets! No getting rid of them now! :D
is responsible for much of the faerrets' foolishness. She has a fondness for cheeky mustelids. ^_^ I might convince her to write a little faerret tale of her own sometime.
Thanks for your comments thus far! This series could certainly use more comments, especially since it's still so early in development. Comments here are very likely to directly impact the story, since you guys are basically my beta testers. The things you like I'll have more of, and I'll work to correct any problems you guys find.
I hope she finds him too! :o They are so cute together.
