Here she is, folks. Going on advice from
Ellen-Natalie, I did my best to avoid the 'My Little Pony' look when designing her. I hope I succeeded.
This is a concept for one of the main characters for my comic--a girl just starting high school that buddies with the two main male characters. Though she's only 14, she has always been very tall for her age, and she hit puberty a bit earlier than most. She has developed somewhat of a tough, tomboy-ish exterior, and spends her time playing video games and table-top RPG's. She's also a good runner, though she doesn't like most sports.
This doesn't mean that she doesn't like girl things; she has a collection of care bear plushies that she has kept from her youth, and she loves to find sets of clothes that look good on her, though she doesn't often go out publically in a dress. She detests the 'clique' groups of girls because all they do is make her feel insecure about her height and her looks. This is why she mostly hangs out with her guy friends.
Her height has always been a sore spot for her. In elementary school, she was at least half a foot taller than any other girl in her class, and she was often ridiculed for it. Now that she is entering high school and the guys are starting to hook up with some of the girls around her, she feels left out because her height tends to intimidate any guy that might be interested in her. She has recently started styling her hair so that it comes down more over her face, helping her to 'hide' from society, as it were.
Despite her secret feelings of inadequacy, she is still a fun-loving girl, with a geeky sense of humor and a love for Weird Al music. She is not the quiet, shy, reserved type; on the contrary, she's not afraid to speak her mind and has a loud, contagious laughter. Her tough emotional exterior has given rise to a sharp, sometimes biting wit. Despite what she thinks of herself, she is actually quite pretty in a natural sort of way (she almost never wears any make-up).
I've decided that I really like the mare idea for her character, because the species really seems to fit her personality.
Now I'm trying to come up with a name for her. Any suggestions?
