Episode 3: Of Fires and Dragons!
Unleashed the Flames of Loss!
Two days later, the start of summer vacation; Hunter has been going over that strange book that they received from the ruins.
“Ah, thank you madam. This is remarkable; I must tell Cynder and young Tyson of this. Where are they?” Hunter asked.
“Well, we got Cynder her own room but when I went to check on her this morning she wasn’t in her room.” Kayla said.
“What of young Tyson?” he asked.
“I haven’t checked him yet.” Kayla said. Both she and Hunter went to Tyson’s room and sure enough they she was, huddled close to Tyson for some reason. Before they could wake them the alarm clock went off startling Cynder into an impromptu Siren Scream that demolished not just the clock but the entire table next to the bed.
“Huh, wha?! Cynder what are doing here again?!” Tyson said.
“What…wait? What am I doing here? I thought I slept in the room your mother gave me?” Cynder said.
After dressing and breakfast, “So, you had no idea that you were sleeping with me again?”
“No, I guess it’s because…whenever I’m around you I feel like I’m with…Spyro.” Cynder said.
“Hey, I promise I’ll help you find Spyro. So anyway how do you think of life here on Earth?” he asked.
“It’s actually very nice. Kayla has been teaching me many things about life here, and she’s even gotten me some…clothes that fit better.” Cynder explained.
In the living room Hunter explained what the book is, “This is truly remarkable, this is a tome but not just any tome; it is one of the tomes of a lost and forgotten dragon guardian a ‘Lost Tome of the Ancestors’! It tells of another being with the slumbering powers of a purple dragon like Spyro. Where are your sword and longbow?” Hunter asked. Almost instinctively Tyson held out his hand and his weapons appeared out of thin air.
“Whoa, how did I do that?” Tyson said.
“Ah, the sword! Here look, your sword and longbow appear in this tome. The sword is called ‘Slumbering Legacy’; the tome says that this very sword was once wielded by the very first purple dragon, the Dragon Hero King! The longbow is said to have been wielded by one of my long lost ancestors, the weapon is called the ‘Avalar Star’, a bow capable of many forms, able to fire as many arrows of light as there are stars in the night sky.” Hunter explained.
“Wait, why is the sword called the ‘Slumbering’ Legacy?” Tyson asked.
“The tome says the true power the sword holds is ‘flawed’ or incomplete. The only one to ever wield the sword in its true form was the King himself but how he awakened the sword has unfortunately been lost to time. There is more text of other weapons he wielded but I am unable to decipher these markings. Perhaps Ignatius or the other guardians could make this out.” Hunter explained. A few hours later a couple of little kids came knocking at the door, before Tyson could answer Cynder beat him to the punch.
“Tyson, who are these younglings?” she asked.
“Oh yeah, I forgot to tell you, I teach a martial arts self defense class for young kids here at home. I completely forgot that we were having a class today.” Tyson said leading the kids to the backyard.
“Now class, I’d like to introduce you all too some new friends that are going to be watching us practice today. This is Hunter and Cynder.” Tyson said. The class greeted them in a unified hello when one little girl raised her hand.
“Yes, May-lee, is there something you’d like to ask?” Tyson said.
“Is Miss Cynder your girlfriend?” May-lee asked. Tyson nearly choked and his face turned bright red! Cynder gave him a questionable look.
“Uh…umm…well we’re just friends! I’m trying to help her find the rest of her friends and get them back to their home; uh that’s all…hehheh…” Tyson stuttered.
“Tyson, what does she mean by that?” Cynder asked.
“Uh, nothing really, just a random question that’s all. Now let’s begin class, shall we.” Tyson said. The class went on for about an hour or so before Tyson said, “Okay class, now it’s time for weapons practice. I hope that some or all of you remembered to practice and study at home? Now does anyone know what weapon we’ve been using?” Tyson asked.
“Ummm, oh the twin swords!” a little boy shouted.
“Good, nice work Samuel. Right the twin swords, can anyone tell me the advantages of having two swords?” Tyson said.
“It lets you hit your opponent more than once and block two attacks from different directions?” a little girl name Lenora said.
“Good that’s right, but it comes at a disadvantage. Does anyone know what that is?” Tyson asked.
“You don’t have eyes in the back of your head?” a little joker named Blaine said. The entire class giggled and so did Cynder.
“That’s not what I was looking for but it was close. What Blaine meant was that our attention would be divided against more than one opponent. Now I want all of you to follow me as I do the twin swords form and be sure not to hit anyone.” Tyson said as he took a stance as the others followed. A couple of swipes, jabs, thrusts ending in spinning both practice swords back and forth and swinging them in a cross slash.
“Okay class, now that you all have an idea of how the form goes I’ll show how it looks when I do it full speed so stand back all.” Tyson said. He took the same stance again but started the form with much more speed and his own brand of stylish flair, spinning the sword with his fingers, multiple thrusts with both swords. Suddenly Cynder started to smell something burning, she looked at the grass where Tyson was stepping and saw the grass was charred.
“Whoa, look at Sensei Tyson glow!” a girl named Vera said pointing at him. Sure enough Tyson was glowing a fiery red, even the practice swords were on fire, literally! As Tyson got to the back and forth spinning part it was like watching a spiraling blaze roar to life before them, then he finished the form with the cross slash but because of this new power awakening the slash became a burning sonic boom in the shape of an ‘X’ to roar forward, scorching the ground as it flew forward and devastated a lone tree, cutting it like an ‘X’ and catching fire.
“Huh, what happened? Why is the ground burned and why are my practice swords burned to ash? YOUCH!” Tyson said. He looked at the children and then at Cynder.
“Whoa, you got to teach us that!” Blaine said.
“Uh, I think it’s something only I can do…maybe we should call it a day.” Tyson said.
An hour later, Tyson’s mom is taking care of the kids while Tyson talks with Cynder and Hunter about what happened because he blanked out again.
“So I was literally on fire, huh? So why aren’t I a burned charred corpse right now?” Tyson asked.
“Since your spirit is that of Spyro’s you also have his elemental abilities. The first element he learned to master was fire. Ignitus was the guardian to mentored Spyro, so perhaps this could be a sign that Ignitus still lives.” Hunter explained.
“Cynder, do you sense anything?” Tyson asked.
“Yes, but it’s too faint. It must be very far away from us or else I would be able to lead us straight there.” Cynder said. Then Tyson got an idea, he had learned of an extrasensory meditative state while he was staying with monks at a temple high up on the Aurora Snow Mountains. It allows ones soul to temporally leave the body to see other things allover the world, if he and Cynder are back to back then as his soul flies across the world then Cynder would be able to sense through him where Ignitus is.
“Tyson are you sure about this? What if something goes wrong and you can’t make it back?” Cynder asked.
“Don’t worry, I’ll make it back. If we’re gonna stop and undo what’s happened to your friends and world than we’ll need all the help we can get. I’ll make it back, promise. Now sit just like I showed you with your back touching mine.” Tyson said. As Cynder closed her eyes she began to see the world through Tyson’s eyes, passing by in a blur as he flew across the sea. Within minutes he was already on the opposite side of the world when Cynder suddenly yelped as she sensed Ignitus’s presence become very strong. The trance ended, Tyson helped Cynder to her feet cause she’s had a lot taken out of her.
“That…forest! Ignitus is somewhere in that forest, but I sensed two more presences along the way. And something else, something horrible.” Cynder said.
“That’s the Dawn Valley Forest. I can’t believe of all places it had to be Dawn Valley… It’ll take several hours to get there but that’ll give me time to find out what’s happened there.” Tyson said.
15 hours later in one of Tyson’s personal high speed jets, Cynder is all fidgety because she’s never flown anywhere like this, Hunter is working on making sure his bow and arrows are ready, and Tyson is talking with a friend of his over the videophone.
“So, have you got anything about Dawn Valley that I asked you for, Professor?” Tyson asked.
“Well yes, but none of it is any good. According to unreleased reports about Dawn Valley City, near the entire population has mysteriously disappeared. Only two or three civilians have been found out of possibly 784,900 people. Plus if that’s not bad enough there have been reports of thousands of strange, vicious, and deadly creatures appearing in the ruins of the city and the forest.” he said.
“And they’ve just vanished like overnight?” Tyson asked.
“Yes, fisherman who were out at sea the day the disappearances occurred say by the time they arrived back the next morning the city was completely devoid of life. I’ve got a really bad feeling about this, you had better stay on guard; I don’t want to lose one of my favorite star students now.” Professor said.
“Don’t worry, I’ll take care and thanks for the info Prof.” Tyson said as he hung up.
“Tyson, what’s the matter? You look worried about something?” Cynder asked as she took the seat next to him.
“Huh, oh yeah. That friend of mind said that something really bad has happened at where we’re going. I have a friend who moved there a couple of years back and all of a sudden I lose contact with her. She was one of the survivors of the bus killing incident like me. I just hope she made it out in time…” Tyson said as he drifted to sleep.
The next day they arrive at the location but because of the reports the pilots decided to hover-land on an isolated little island off the shore of Dawn Valley City. Cynder decided that it was time to fly on her own this time and even with her new form she still flew effortlessly as if she was still in her previous form. A boat ride later they saw the full extent of the devastation to the city.
“This is…oh man…” Tyson had to give it everything he had to keep from throwing up. Cynder stepped on something, a little doll that looks like a bear.
“Tyson, look at this! It must belong to someone.” Cynder said holding up the doll. Tyson immediately began to shudder the second he saw it.
“Tha…that…d-d-d-doll…it can’t…be!” Tyson carefully took the doll from Cynder as if it were made of glass, “This was…the teddy bear…that I gave to……ARIEL! ARIEL!!” Tyson began screaming Ariel’s name over and over again.
“Tyson, what’s wrong?!” Hunter asked.
“This doll was the one I gave to my friend Ariel before she moved here. I had no idea that she still kept it after all these years, she must still be here! C’mon we gotta find her and any others that maybe still here!” Tyson said before taking off in a dead sprint. Several hours later their search turns up nothing when shouts for help came from around the corner. The reports of strange creatures turned out to be true when they find several of them huddled around something.
“Help, anybody please!” the voice yelled. Tyson shot a warning arrow but instead got these things riled up. They looked like the ugliest, grotesque, misshapen, hideous dragon like things ever. As soon as their attention was elsewhere a little red ball of light dashed off down an alley and out of sight. The little ball of light hid behind some debris and watched as the three strangers defeat those monsters without as much as a scratch.
“Hey, you think these things are responsible for the disappearance of the entire city’s people?” Tyson said.
“I’m not sure, but perhaps they may be connected to this mystery.” Hunter said.
“Huh, where’d that little light ball thing go? It might be trying to help us somehow?” Cynder said. They started walking down the opposite direction as the light ball slowly followed them.
“Hey, through here, this restaurant has a backdoor we can use to get around the debris.” Tyson said as he stepped into the dark demolished building. Just as they stepped out the back a lone creature attacked from behind but strangely only went after Tyson.
“No, wait, I’ll handle this one! You two make sure nothing else comes at us from behind.” Tyson said as he took a sword stance and now even stranger, the creature transforms a large claw into a sword like appendage and takes the same stance or something close to it like Tyson! They lunge, slamming their weapons against the others, but something about this one makes it different from the others. The way it moves is apparently different from the ones they fought a little while ago, its moves are smooth and fluid not zombie-like, and its sword moves are accurate and precise instead of haphazardly random and all over the dang place! The creature matches Tyson move for move just like Ariel did back when they were sparring partners at the Avalar Martial Arts Academy back home. They both used exactly the same fighting style…exactly the same…!!!! Tyson lost focus and the creature parried his lunging stab and sent him into a wall with a spinning back kick just like Ariel did!
“Tyson!! I’m coming to…” Cynder was interrupted by Tyson.
“No, wait, something’s different about this one! Maybe…well I only got one chance for this to work!” Tyson said as he reached into his jackets inner back pocket. The creature made a savage dash for Tyson with its sword ready to ram through his head, just 3 feet away and suddenly Tyson pulls out the teddy bear doll he gave to Ariel and held it out in front for the creature to see. For some reason the creature retracted its sword just milliseconds before it touched Tyson and just stood there with its claws just 3 inches away. Tyson moved the doll side to side and the creature followed it, slowly it began reaching out for it and gently took it from his hand. Suddenly it clutched its head in agony, screaming and howling! Then it started to try and say something, its voice; distorted and twisted growls became somewhat clearer.
“Tuh…tay…sun…”
“Huh, what are you trying to tell me?” Tyson whispered.
“Tyshhh…unn…! Tyyshun…”
“Wha…tyysunn! Wait…Tyshun…TYSON! You’re trying to say my name?!” Tyson said.
“TYSON…ITS…ME…ARIEL…” Tyson just started crying as he heard that name.
“Oh my god…Ariel! What happened to you…?” Tyson gasped.
“I…DON’T…KNOW! I’m sorry…I couldn’t stop…They turned everyone into…” Before Ariel could finish another creature jumped off a nearby roof and tore its huge claws through Ariel’s back and out the front of her body. With a single instant charge shot Tyson obliterated the attacking creature, within seconds the entire plaza was teeming with monsters.
“No…no Ariel, hang on we’ll get you help just hold on!” Tyson screamed. She grabbed him by the collar of his shirt and pulled him closer.
“You…guh…have to stop…*choke*…them. The ones who did this…ack…to us…they…want to…destroy the…world.”
“No, hold on, you’re going to be alright! JUST HOLD ON!!!!” Tyson screamed.
“I…believe…in…*gasp*…you…Tyson. You’re…gonna……save………the world…………………” Her arm just fell limp…nothing in all of existence could ever be more painful than to have a friend die right in your arms.
“No, Ariel…don’t go…please…no! ARIEL!! ARIEL!!!!!!!!” Tyson’s scream echoed all over the city. “You…freaks…you’re going to pay for what you’ve done!!!”
A furious inferno suddenly engulfed Tyson as his eyes burned with the pain of loss, the ground began to quake, buildings came crashing down as the flames grew stronger. Then with a savage roar, unleashed a massive eruption of fire and out of nowhere that little light came and stopped in front of Cynder and Hunter and amazingly protected them from the flames. The explosion was gigantic; it leveled 7 city blocks easily and incinerated all the enemies. Tyson fell to the ground utterly drained from unleashing the Fire Fury ability before he was ready.
What felt like years later was only hours after Tyson’s episode, “Tyson, Tyson wake up! Please…”
“Cynder…” Tyson whispered. Cynder helped him up to his feet this time, “So that’s what happened…are you two alright?”
“We are unhurt; we owe thanks to this little one.” Hunter said motioning toward the light ball.
“I saw how you cried…she used to be something else, right? She was your friend…? I know how you feel; I have a friend who’s missing and probably in danger right now. We got separated in the forest when those things came after us; I’ll help you anyway I can, for your friend Ariel.”
“Thank you, I’m Tyson. This is Cynder and her friend Hunter.” Tyson said.
“My name is Flame the fire dragon.”
After a brief rest the team headed off toward the forest leaving behind only a large pile of neatly stacked rocks with a cross made of two broken steel pipes tied together pushed into the ground at one end with a little teddy bear gently laid against the cross holding a small stone with the words, ‘May you be set free and find eternal peace my dear friend, Ariel’ carved into it for all the heavens to see.

After a brief rest the team headed off toward the forest leaving behind only a large pile of neatly stacked rocks with a cross made of two broken steel pipes tied together pushed into the ground at one end with a little teddy bear gently laid against the cross holding a small stone with the words, ‘May you be set free and find eternal peace my dear friend, Ariel’ carved into it for all the heavens to see.

i think it would be less corny if you wrote ''it leveled 7 city blocks and incinerated all in its path'' instead of ' it leveled 7 city blocks easily and incinerated all the enemies''. just my idea you do not have to change it. it just seams weird to read and incinerated all the enemies
