Kyteriah loves acquiring treasure, so when he learns that a cave-dwelling worm creature has some inside of it, he enlists Rodent to help him get it. Rodent is a bit nervous about doing this, but Kyt ensures the rat that he has nothing to worry about. The glowing gem on his staff will hypnotize the creature, and Kyt's long tongue will be a life-line to pull the rat out.
Of course, Rodent has no idea that Kyt intends to swap Rodent for the treasure, leaving the rat to whatever fate the creature will have in store for prey in its gullet. :)
I absolutely love how this came out. The setting, the look of the characters, the lighting, the background... it all works so beautifully together. If only there was such a slimy creature around for a rat to go exploring inside of. ;)

*Sees the tabby swallow the treasure and then lay down to nap, chittering with a soft chuckle.* Oh sure. Like that's going to work. *He does his best to ignore the feline, but the thought of the treasure just sitting in there weighs on his thoughts until he can't take it any more. A few moments later and the rat is down on all fours before the sleeping kitty. Reaching out, he gently tries to lift her jaws open and peer inside.*
Seemingly asleep, the kitty lies on her belly with her between her paws. Staring into her pretty grey furred face, he'd see her eyes shut, jerking underneath her eyelids, the cat having some pleasant kitty dream. Completely limp, her jaw would offer no resistance other than its weight as he pushed it oven, warm breath washing rhythmically over him. Her white teeth and pink bumpy tongue would sparkle with saliva from the afternoon sun. Perhaps the rat would imagine he just barely caught the hint of a sparkle from the depths of her pitch black throat.
*His heart races as he gazes into the wet, fleshy jaws; over the tongue and down into the dark gullet. His tail twitches when he sees a sparkle from within the depths. The warm breath washing over him in a manner that should only occur when one is sleeping, he decides that the opportunity to retrieve the treasure is now. Moving forward, his head enters the jaws first, allowing the upper portion to press down upon the back of his neck as he lowers his front paws. Down on all fours, he cautiously reaches in, his front paws stepping upon the coarse, squishy tongue, before pushing himself inward. His body shudders and his breath comes in rapid pants as he feels the upper teeth sliding through his fur and along his flesh, thankful that they are not heavier or sharper.*
Wow! That's rather mean and wicked of Kyteriah in using Rodent to retrieve the treasure (and at the same time, swap Rodent for the treasure and be devoured by that cave-dwelling worm creature!).
*shakes his white feathery head* You poor thing! You gotta be less trusting of suspicious people. They're out to do you harm, sweet Rodent! Don't give them that satisfaction!
