onboard or PCI/PCIE graphics? if PCIE, it could be your GPU. What type of PC is it? there a model number or is it something you built/had built for you?

Well check the video card first before you assume it's a bad mobo. If it has one, that is.... if it has onboard also, you can try switching to that and see if it fixes it. If not, ask a friend to borrow their GPU so you can test your machine with it. If it lights up fine with a different card, then all you need is a new card.
If it doesn't fix it, or if you don't have a dedicated graphics card, then you're going to need a new mobo. You can install it yourself, or you can buy a new computer, pretty much...

also try booting to memtest or something, could even be RAM, though unlikely.

Damn.... do you see the bios spash screen when you first power it up ? did you try holdign down the F10 , F2 or ESC keys when powering up to try to get into the BIOS ?

yup, i can get into the bios setup. I flashed 3 new different bioses. that is a screen when i tried to boot to the windows cd.

It's a hard ware issue. either mother board or ram or something *shrugs*

if you can actually boot into BIOS and the screen still looks normal, ( The bios screen & settings) it could be HDD failure, Northbridge failure, ( on th MB) etc. Can you still see the CD ROM and Hard drives in the BIOS window that shows the boot priority ?

It's possible that it is that hard drive. tomorrow morning when i'm better mooded and more awake i'll try switching them out.

only thing that has me worried though, is that the computer won't come on some times with the ram, protesting me with the motherboard pip DET DRAM.

soon as you turned on the computer we get that so we swapped the card out and for him everything was ok. i myself have never had a bios error like that all mine have been dead screens nothing at all shows up. I always had to use a post card to let me know it was the bios and not something else.

capacitors are the little round tower cylinders with flat tops all over the place. they can do bad things if they pop their top and go rounded. my video card did that to me last year :/ not the exact same error but who knows what it'll do.

just for shit and giggles have to reset the cpu in the socket? just to make sure it has not lost connection to one of its pin due to dust build up? I know this sound lame and dumb but I have had one pc that acted fucked up till I pulled the cpu out put it back in. the only thing I could figure is maybe some how the fan vibrated just so causing it to lose connection to a few pins. I mostly always end up with computer on there last legs here because people dont have the money and I do trade work.
