So I was playing with some new ways of doing fur texturing today, and I came up with one that I kind of liked, but I'm undecided whether to stick with it or not. I did a quick sketch of my kitty sleeping on the couch and did a quick colouring to compare.
So if you could, let me know which image you prefer, the left one or the right one. The left was created using the way I usually do fur, the right was created using a different technique (which, unfortunately, I'm less experienced with at the moment).
Left or right (and why)? :)

The one on the right stands out more and looks more detailed, but probably doesn't fit in that well with the rest of the style. Hmm, I'd say that overall left looks better based on art style and that the subtle lighting as well as how things blend is more realistic (especially, again, considering the art style)
The left is more like a painting whilst the right is...I don't how to describe it but it doesn't have the same "painted" feel everything else has.

See, both of them look completely right to me...it just depends on what the subject matter looks like. Does the cat look more soft and fluffy (left) or does it look like the fur is well-defined and stands out more than just being fluffy? (right)
I like them both :) I guess it just depends on what kind of effect you want the cat to portray. Fluffy, smooth and soft, or course, fine, and stands out.
