Being a sultan is not easy. Before you assume leadership, you must obey the current monarch, and in Yul's case it involved his dictatorial father. Before Yul married his first two wives, Yul fell in love with a famed dancer at Semele.

Yul's father would not hear of his son cavorting with "trash" and quickly set about marrying him to a his sister (for heir purity) as well as the daughter of a local leader. Although Yul cared for his two wives, in his heart it was not the same love. His Semele lover would stay close to him, but only as a concubine to the palace (a gift as well as an insult from his father).

Once his father died, Yul took the throne and set about eliminating many of his father's old fashioned laws. The first of which allowed the royal family to marry any that they wished. His first marriage since this law passed happened faster than it took for the ink to dry.
