One of the subjects I've been sketching lately is the Jim Henson Show, "Fraggle Rock." This sketch is of Mokey -- the hippie like, artsy Fraggle -- and a friend. She's dreaming about him, and he knows it.
The problem I'm having with tis subject is that the Henson puppets are literally mouths with ping-pong ball eyes, and its difficult to draw them as though they were realistic creatures. Oh, sure, I could just draw them as they are -- a mouth with two eyes perched on top. But I'm not satisfied with that. Unfortunately, making them more realistic also makes them look less like Muppets.

Another problem with the Fraggles I can find no solution for is whether they have fur all over -- short on their arms, legs and faces, but long on their heads and bodies -- or whether they only have fur on their bodies, heads, and at the end of their tails, and the rest is "skin." Since it's all fabric of some kind anyway, its hard to know what Henson intended.
Alway's possible. But I liked Mokey's songs even in the show. One in particular I found very haunting -- "Fly Away" -- in the episode where Gobo thinks he's captured the moon (reflecting in the Great Hall's pool).
Some damn good music in that show. I wouldn't wonder if there was a CD collection of songs, though I've never seen one.

That's one thing very difficult to capture in other media -- the Muppets (of all sorts) were extremely musical.
The Muppet Show was basically vaudeville brought to TV (akin to the old variety shows), Sesame Street taught through music, and even the movies relied very heavily on music if not singing.

It was the nature of the medium I suppose, but possibly Henson was one of those people who believe everyone is musical. I hate those people... normally. No matter what Cantel (the wandering mystic) says, I DON'T HAVE A FRIGGIN' SONG!!! I've no musical abillity at all. Listening to it stretches my musical aptitude as far as it will go. So where do these pushy Franggles come off, making up songs as they go along. Show offs.
This is VERY well done. I never had cable when I grew up in the 80s so my enjoyment of the Fraggles comes through youtube. I rally don't have a favorite among them although I find Red amusing especially with the main fraggle who constantly gets post cards from his Uncle Matt exploring Outer Space.
You mean Gobo, whose uncle is a pun on a special effect called a "travelling matte shot."
All four seasons are now available in separate boxed sets, or in one complete set. It does get costly, though, so I almost suggest getting the final season if you were only to get one. That way you have the final two episodes in which Doc discovers the Fraggles, Junior becoms king, and various other loose ends are tied up.
