The puddle of a Stargate waved around like water on the event horizon. The white lights on the Stargate were lit up and several of the symbols glow the same white colour. A leg suddenly altered the shape of the event horizon like a hand reaching into the water, then another and along with it a whole body. An anthropomorphic stoat that stood about six feet tall stood for a moment. He scanned the horizon and then stepped forward to make room for the rest of his group. An orange and white cat that was similar in dress to the stoat stepped out. She looked about six and a half inches shorter than him and had a certain ecstatic enthusiasm in her eyes. She was excited to finally be able to go offworld to a new planet she had never seen before. She scanned the horizon as well and smiled wide, looking at the man next to her.
“Felix, this is beautiful!” he looked at her and sighed slightly to himself. She didn’t seem to notice. Felix looked again. The scenery was pretty incredible to her. Crystal spires jutted out from packs of dusty rocks. The light from the yellow sun reflected through the crystals, creating a brilliant rainbow effect onto the ground and in the crystals themselves.
“I suppose. We should take some samples of these crystals to take back. I’ll go and do that, if you don’t mind, I’d like you to gather some of these plants for testing,” Angel, the cat, nodded. She walked away from the Stargate and Felix. Another man stepped out of the gate. He was a military type with a helmet on. He held an M16 in his two hands. Felix looked up and nodded at him as the gate shut itself down.
“Doctor, I’m getting kind of an eerie vibe from this place already,” Felix found that amusing.
“It’s just discolouration from the ionization in the atmosphere. It’s nothing to worry about,” the military man, Lieutenant Ivan Pinkerton, nodded and went to follow Angel. The lieutenant was a dog, specifically a border collie. This odd group of travelers came from a ship called the Destiny. A number of people were stranded there, billions of light years from their home planet when they were forced to evacuate their base. They arrived on the ship to find that other people had been there before and had performed a number of repairs.
Angel was practically skipping through the field of sparse vegetation, picking up some as she went along. Her name was the same as Felix’s. Rush. Felix was adopted by her family when he was four years old and was raised then on by them. He watched her skipping around and couldn’t help but smile. Even though he didn’t share her enthusiasm, she was a very intelligent biologist, and a cute one at that.
