Well, a lot of reptiles do have smooth scales and hides (at least they look that way from a short distance), especially the smaller lizards and snakes. It's just the non-smooth ones take more time to draw as there's more to draw. Like the bearded lizard; bumpy hide and spikes. It's simpler to draw the smooth scale variety.
