================
I don't want to be pretentious and go on about this for ages, but there's quite a lot I want to say about it. After managing to keep my recent song lengths down for the most part, this was an attempt at forgetting all size limits and writing a large collection of related "movements" with themes - lyrical and musical - running throughout them.
Did it work? Sort of. There are pieces of it that I like a lot, but it felt at the end that I was just wanting to get it over with and finished - after all, it had been a work in progress since January 2006!
The song is about how making a world in your head, however perfect it may be, can steal your life if you let it go too far - and that we should remember to appreciate the lives that we have no matter how bad this world sometimes seems. It goes through a number of different styles with a few themes reappearing throughout. There's a section near the end where I experimented with a variety of mad time signatures, and the conclusion section echoes the lyrics from Hand of Fate at the beginning of the album.
This release finishes off the "My Kingdom" album, which is possibly the one that it's taken me longest to write just because of this and The Fallen Angel - though later I'll probably split this up into individual downloads as well so that I can get the quality a bit higher here.
In the meantime, I've put up the high-quality version (well, 128kb/s) my own site - a 24-minute song can't be put within FA's size limit without compressing it down to 40kb/s.
Moreso than ever, as it took over my music writing for so long - I hope you enjoy it!
[Lyrics]
[Part One: Entrance]
Painted in my words
I outline their lives
Each one of them unique
A star behind my eyes
The passage to my mind
Locked for eternity
I will give you the key
To the kingdom I see
For if it's never found
Then the world dies with me
We are the leaders of our lives
Together we shall never die
At the end of the passage to my mind
There is a kingdom with an empty throne for years
Somewhere in time there is a place where we can be
Away from pain and fear
And in the end it will appear
The only sacrifice you'll make
A moment of your life
To leave your world behind
And finally you'll find
My kingdom
[Part Two: Rise Above]
Fear is all I see
You were made to be controlled
Can't see the signs
But they're there for us all
Society of blame
We will go to any length
Where empathy is weakness
And cruelty is strength
And we wish for the world we cannot have
Wherever our minds are led
And we search for a way to leave this place
Where trust and truth are dead
You can never change
You were made to hate and fear
Can't see the light
Through your blindfolded eyes
No good deed goes unpunished
By your hatred and your greed
Your selfish way of thinking
Will never be erased
Responsibility is something
That you never had to learn
A world that taught you were a king
Proud of your ignorance
And feeding on the other people's fear
I see there's no place for me here
Rise above your cheating world
Defeat your misery
I will lead you by the hand
And show another way
Pity and sympathy are feelings
That you never had to learn
A world that taught you were a king
Proud of your gluttony
And feeding on the other people's grief
Am I the only one who sees
I will rise above your cheating world
Defeat this misery
And I will lead you by the hand
To show another way
If you can hear these words
Then I am not alone
If you're the same as me
Rise above and let yourself be known
[Part Three: Out of Reach]
There is a world that I can see
A place where I can never be
It's always near to me but never within reach
It is a world we'll never meet
Born to be perfect, without hate
Your outer form and inner beauty are the same
Rejected by the world
Accepted just in fantasy
A place where no one ever dies
And trapped by who I am
I must remain here on the ground
While my mind soars through the sky
Such a pleasant torture
I am shown it in my dreams
There is a place where I can never be
All the world before me
Seeing through another's eyes
And once again it fades away
I fade away
With no desire to be cruel
Disease and harm left far behind
To be a part of it, this heaven floods my mind
Rejected by the world
Accepted just in fantasy
A place where no one ever dies
And trapped by who I am
I must remain here on the ground
While my mind soars through the sky
Such a pleasant torture
I am shown it in my dreams
There is a place where I can never be
All the world before me
Seeing through another's eyes
And once again it fades away
And we share one eternity
Building the world in our hearts
We can capture infinity
And bring it to ourselves
[Part Four: My Kingdom]
Now I see I've found the place for me
No longer alone in the universe
Build me a world, so I am not alone
Giving them stories and souls of their own
I have the power to make anything I wish
I built paradise with my voice and my hands
A place that I can never show the world
But every time I am alone
I will return to my own kind
All that matters is my kingdom
And the world I made in my mind
Was I born to be the one I am
Am I a misplaced mind
For all the time I want to leave
My waking world behind
I wake in sunlight from a dream
And suddenly alone
What has happened to my kingdom
Take me back to where I belong
[Part Five: Out of Time]
Time is running short for me
Even though I have so many years to live
I will die before I show
Everything I have to give
I create - while you destroy
And you hate - The life I have
Is it so different to want to let it go
I have a better world than you will ever know
I cannot live in two hearts at a time
This world is stealing my life
I have to choose - my life or the dream
As time goes by
I am trying to live two lives
In between the real and the imagination
I can see I'm out of time
It will never wait for me
I create - but I can never be
More than a ghost to them
To spend my whole life craving somewhere else
It is the greatest waste of all
I cannot live in two hearts at a time
This world is stealing my life
I have to choose - my life or the dream
As time goes by
I have only seen one half of this world
The slices of time that bring perfection to my mind
Will you show me how to live forever, coming back again
Before with the first light of day, I'll fade away
We all move between our different worlds
Perfection and reality
You can always wish to be somewhere else
But the most important time of your life is
Now
[Part 6: Reawakening]
There is good in this world if you know where to look
The wonders that you take for granted every day
So don't waste all your life waiting for this escape
Forever waiting for a world that can't be real
Was I born to be the one I am
Am I a misplaced mind...
We are bound to lead the lives we have
No matter where they are
I will use my time and be thankful now
That I am alive at all
I am no master, I'm no god
I have no power to give life
But power to create
I am the maker, I am here
And I can see my world now
I have to turn away
But in the end it will appear
The world I have seen in my dreams
The power of the mind
Desire of the heart
A place I'll never find
My kingdom

I do keep on saying I'll do that, don't I? =) Well, if I get some time I'll have to neaten up the song information in the .IT files (something I've been forgetting to do now that I export it all to MP3) and try to re-understand the catastrophic PHP mess that is my music site... I'll get them eventually!
Now that's the first symphonic piece that I've ever heard on FA. You obviously put a huge effort into this one. Let's see about it...
The beat and percussion background that you manage to keep up throughout the piece is very uplifting. The frequent key changes and cadences also contribute to the impression. I dig the transgression you put in at 12.26 (bass, then percussion) - great creation of tension; gives the whole thing a somewhat darker, but still extremely dynamic feel.
Things continue nicely afterrwards. The flute score you use instead of the vocals is very expressive in this part especially.
The part where the piano comes in at around 16.20 is also quite impressive. Instant change of atmosphere in the whole piece, but quite short-lived as the dynamism comes back. Nice tension in the accords in this part.
The cadence starting at 18.49 is a masterpiece, and perfectly introduces the following phrase (stereo? niiice!). The accelerating guitar parts is also a keeper.
Piano again towards the end. Very calm and relaxing flute. Aaand... mission accomplished.
What's left to say? Well, how about... wow!
(Yeah, I wrote that as I was listening along ;). You've created a truly epic piece here.)

Quite a piece. Enjoyed it all. Going to take a couple more times listening to really say anything on this. (listen without reading lyrics and then read and listen...) Have it faved and saved.
I like the third piece a lot, stands out more than the others though they all have strong points to them. And then of course it is all one song, very well done.

Thank you so much :) And for all the comments and favourites you left on my songs this evening - it's wonderful to know that they're enjoyed! Hopefully my pace of submitting things will speed up soon.
A singer is probably the biggest thing missing from my music at the moment - fitting my own voice to them has given disastrous results at best :) Though thinking about it now, I haven't yet really gone out of my way to find someone who wants to give it a try...
