nyface opened for commissions a couple of weeks ago, and though I was trying to keep my belt tight on buying any more for a while, I just had to jump on it. She doesn't do furry/anthro, but she does feral very well, and her reference "sketches" were amazing. So I just had to grab a pair for the feral forms of my Rooths.

Behold, Rooth'roo! :) Now, before you ask, there's a reason those hands and feet and ears are a little skewed from a normal roo. Rooth'roo is about 85% roo, 15% snowshoe hare. He's technically a snowshoe roo that flinters and I came up with one day while randomly chatting online some years ago. Rooth'roo predates that conversation, but it was while discussing details about him that we birthed this species. Most of his 15% hareitage [sic] shows in his extremities. Here's the kicker -- snowshoe hares have no pads on their feet or hands. Kangaroos have very thick pads that cover their entire foot and their entire hand. And so, Rooth'roo has more pads than a typical animal, but not quite as much as a roo would have. In fact, I was thinking of having a thin stretch of pad go from the ball of the foot to the heel. Still might do that sometime later, dunno.

Anyhow, it's the snowshoe hare in him that gives him his fluffy coat, his enormous feet, the unusual padding, and the black tips on his slightly larger-than-roo ears. The kangaroo portion gives him his overall morphology and bone structure, and what makes his species marsupial (yeah, I know, mammal/marsupial hybrids would be technically very unlikely, but c'mon, this is a fantasy creature, cut me some slack. ;)).

The blue fluff on his head is probably the sole bit of 'anthro' showing through here, and in a fully feral form it probably shouldn't be there. But, combined with the toony/costume reference I'm working on with another artist, this reference will serve as a great foundation for a long long time. I don't tweak my characters often.

I can't begin to explain how happy I am with this. We did several back-and-forths on this, and she was very gracious about it.
