Well, in the third game and fourth game, he has three vision modes: nightvision, thermal, and some kind of electromagnetic vision that detects electronics that you can zap with your EMP gun to disable them.

If I had to take a guess. I'd say so people would be all OMGWTFISTHATITHASTHREEEYESOMG! if they saw the three glowing eyes. If they saw just two they'd be all "Oh some dude is here *POW*"
