Haha XD I guess I can kind of understand re-naming pokes if their names are really difficult, but Pokabu was just.. so easy! D: Tsutarja and Mijumaru are very japanese-y though.. but they still could have come up with better names XD

Pokabu could have become Porkabu. x3 That would have been weird. Snivy, I like that name a lot. Oshawott...Is weird to me, it sounds like a Japanese name, but it isn't. x3 I think they could have left out the "O", and had it be "Shawott", personally!

When told me the name was gonna be Tepig and I said I wasn't a fan of it, he challenged me to come up with a better name - I suggested Boarm (mix between boar and warm). I dunno why, I just don't like the sound of 'pig' anything :O

Inorite? Didn't one of their translators work a bunch of memes into Diamond and Pearl? I wonder what happened to him. Maybe they decided "Wotter" was no good because it sounds exactly like like "water" when you say it out loud and that might be confusing... and "Smugleaf" is really only funny if you know the meme (but it still would have been epic if they'd used it). I want to know what their excuse is for this guy though. "Tepig" just sounds like "teh pig." Or like they tried to cross "pig" with "tepid."

Indeed. My brother's been playing it with the unofficial english patch for a couple months now, and the version of the patch he used states their english names as the meme names ^_^

I think thats one of the only changes I don't get. While not used to the english starter names I get where they were going with each....but all the regions english names have been the same or very close to the original. Except for Isshu/Unova...its a very strange name change choice.

Changing it makes more sense this gen than other gens since it's based on New York while the others have been based on regions in Japan. See also:

In fact when people talk about the Kanto region of Japan, I immediately think of Pokemon Red, which is probably not good.
