Ah, well it's a long compicated tale, but essentially he started out as a yakuza hitman and climbed the ladder to be an underboss in a prominent criminal syndicate, until his lover died. He took her hat as a keepsake and rethought his life as an outlaw and decided he'd put his skills to better use as a bounty hunting mercenary.
