Yes, I've heard that about Florida (at least from every late night comedian I've ever seen).
But why trade Florida for more of the same? Except with less sun, and no Disneyworld? (Oh, and less hurricanes, I guess thats a plus). Seriously though, I was born here so I don't have an outsiders perspective as to what draws people to the area. I do like it here, but its also all I know so...yeah.
Anyway, it's just always weird to see Anacortes metioned anywhere, especially on FA.

Florida is HOT. Hothothot. I've never really liked hot weather but I love rain and overcast days. I'd say the beach would provide some relief but the water is murky and sharky and that kind of freraks me out.
I haven't been to Disney in ages and would rather be out in nature. Washington has lots of pretty nature parks and a lot that are within easy reach of Anacortes. Originally I was just thinking of the Seattle-area in general that I wanted to get out to but I really love how you can ferry from Anacortes to the San Juans. The San Juans are like.. my lottery dream location. I see Anacortes as living next to what probably can't get! I also like how its close to the flower fields and farms. We don't really have much of that here in Florida, except maybe citrus. And Seattle itself isn't very far away in case I'd ever want to do day trips. Also. Orcas. You have them, we don't and I'd loooove love love to be able to live in an area that I had a better chance of seeing them on a somewhat regular basis. :)

Gee, you make make Wasington sound nice. I definitely agree about the heat. I would die in Florida heat (or wish I was dead).
You'll probably resent me and think I'm wasting the opportunity to do all those nature-y things, but sad to say I can't remember the last time I went to a state park (when I can find free time, I'd rather be drawing I guess), and I've never seen an orca (I don't think. Not outside an aquarium). The sea is best observed from the shore for me. Still I do feel fortunate to be here, and I try not to take it for granted.
I wish you the best of luck. I hope you can make it out here someday!
(Sorry! I just realized I'm cluttering up your profile ID page with frivolous comments!)

The heat in the summer is sooooo gross!
Haha, no resentment here. Different people like different places. :) Its tough to feel inspired from the only place you've ever lived in. I grew up in the same state, town, street and house and it seemed like with every passing year the heat felt worse and, all in all, there was just no NEWNESS to take in. I did move away for a few years, then came back. I'm still not much for this state in many ways, but the time elsewhere did allow me to try harder to explore and see the things around here that I -do- actually like. I just don't wanna stay here forever. :)
Seeing an orca in the wild was amazing. I took the ferry from Anacortes out to San Juan Island and went to Lime Kiln Lighthouse. It was neat, as soon as I got to the shore from the wooded path *BAM* orcas were sighted. They swam past the lighthouse close enough to hear them breath. Later went on a whale watch boat and saw more. I'm hoping to get out next summer for a naturalist program that lasts a week but I've got to save my pennies. :)
No worries about cluttering my profile page. XD The topic of locations is interesting!
