DESCRIPTION:

General
Duke is tall and broad with a compact body. He has fluffy lynx fur with a ruff of long hair on his chest, large tufts on his cheeks (which point upward, not downward as typical for a lynx) and ears and small ones at his elbows. Body is a taupey colour(2). Large 'snowshoe' paws for feet.

Build
Trim but not in great shape, he has to work hard to stay within his ideal weight range.

Hair
Is russet(3) with chunky bangs, spikey in the back over shaved undercut.

Eyes
Golden(6), somewhat feline in appearence.

Ears
Long and tufted with dark fur(1), inside is cream(4) like underfur.

Tail
Bob tail of basic body colour(2) with dark tip(1)..

Markings
Sparse spots of light marking colour(10) on his shoulders and also extending from his outer thighs back to his butt. Chin has a small splash of cream(4) the width of his lips which blends down into his throat and the ruff on his chest. The cream chest ruff stretches across his pecs tapering down in a V-shape to end just below nipple level. The tips of his toes but not his fingers are also cream. His cheek tufts are large, upward pointing and are a light brown(10). He has a heart or triangular like marking of this same colour across his shoulder blades ending at the centre of his back. Above his nose he has a rectangular shaped marking of dark brown.(1)

Nose:
Brick red/tuscan red colour.(9)

Private parts
Averagely endowed. Exposed skin is light pink(5) colour same as lips.


MISC:

Duke is a Forensic Identification Specialist, he spends most of his time in the crime lab, so he wears navy scrubs over street clothes usually dark slacks and a t-shirt. He is trained in Scenes of Crime investigation and on the rare occassions he goes on scene he wears dress pants, a collared shirt and a sport coat. As a detective(FIS) he is not issued body armour when working on scene as a det.(SoC) would.

TPS issue clothes are a bomber style jacket in navy blue with "FORENSICS" in block letter yellow writing on the back.
Duke does not carry a side arm. He also does not wear a wedding band as it gets in his way when he is working.

Canada Lynx
Lynx canadensis

The beautiful lynx is a symbol of the wilderness in winter. Their plush coat helps them deal with the cold and their large, broad paws act like snowshoes helping them be nimble across snow. Though now displaced in some of it's habitat by it's southern cousin, the Bobcat, the lynx's superior cold weather adaptations mean it will always be able to hold it's own in the more northern reaches of the boreal forest. The Canada Lynx is smaller than the European Lynx but larger than the Bobcat. Canada Lynx hunt almost exclusively snowshoe hare and their population numbers effect lynx population numbers directly. The lynx can run fast only in short sprints so they are ambush hunters and even occasionally scavengers.
Trapping of lynx for their fur is still widespread.

HISTORY:
Born in north Ontario to farming Scotts on one side of his family and silver mining Scotts on the other, Duke was impressed at an early age with the value of hard work and maintaining tradition. Not happy with the prospect of a life maintaining the family farm he moved down south to pursue his study in the sciences as soon as finishing high school. A police recruiter speaking at his university turned him on to forensics, and did his degree in Foresnic Anthropology.

Duke began his career with the TPS as a civilian foresnic specialist working with finger(pawpad)prints. In the early 1990's he became fascinated with DNA technology and how this was changing the role of trace evidence like skin flakes and fluids in solving crime. He left his civillian work to take officer training, then understudied with Scenes of Crime and eventually returned to the lab this time as a Detective Forensic Examiner specializing in trace evidence from crime scenes. Despite being trained in on-scene investigation he rarely does field work, prefering the crime lab side of things. Duke is very serious while working but has a dry sense of humour he lets slip through his professional demenour from time to time. Though respected by his co-workers, his no non-sense attitude and frank way of speaking can intimidate.

Off hours Duke is a real bookworm and loves classic mystery novels like Agatha Christie's Poirot and historical fiction like Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe and Copperhead series. He is an avid snooker and pool player. A social drinker as well as a whisky connoisseur he collects fine whisky and shares his rare finds freely with friends. Not a big fitness buff, he keeps himself in shape because of his career. To prevent himself from being lax about it he and his co-worker Adalai Miller go to the gym together thrice a week. Duke has tried to quit smoking but hasn't been successful yet, much to the annoyance of his wife, Tia. Not one for large crowds he prefers small get-togethers with close friends and he and "the dutchess" are known for their dinner parties featuring great food, great drinks and great conversation.
His older sister who now runs the family farm hopes that Duke will retire early to help her out there, but the chances of that happening are very slim.
