Myself and a lovely Sumatran tiger named Bashii at the Australia Zoo thanks to the kindness of Terri Irwin and the tiger team at Australia Zoo.
You may notice that my shirt is inside out. This is because we were instructed not to wear "flashy" clothing that may provoke the tiger during the encounter. I made the absent-minded error of bringing a shirt that had a giant roaring tiger face on the front. I did the smart thing and turned it inside out before the encounter, which was great...after all, all the attention should be on the tiger that matters in this photo: Bashii!

You met Terri? I idolized her husband.
Such a beautiful creature that tiger is gorgeous, I wanted to go to the tiger temple when I was living in Thailand till I heard about how all the big cats there are kept heavily drugged so they don't attack anyone, I am assuming that is not the case here?

The Australia Zoo is as far from the tiger temple as you can get. The tiger temple is a horrible place that abuses tigers for money and engages in the illegal trade in tigers. The Australia Zoo puts animals on a pedestal where they belong, raises money for conservation and seeks to eradicate the threats that face animals in the wild.

I have always wanted to go to Australia, I will take a look at your journal when I can concentrate on more then short bursts of words and pretty pictures.
Yeah.. I was supposedly taken to an "Elephant reserve" when I was there, by the exchange people and it was far from.. it was a lumber mill where the elements performed tricks when not working.. they were all covered in horrible scars, it made me so damn depressed I almost left Thailand at that point (well there was lot of other stuff and cases of just animal abuse and poverty that just made me far to sad). I hope some day to go and experience something like you have in Australia.

I've been around plenty of tigers and although it never gets old, what feels so much better is making headway in helping them as individuals and as a species...it is far more fulfilling. It was a dream of mine as well and after it happened it left a void, which I filled with a passion for conservation work.
Yeah, I have felt that calling so strongly as well. Tigers, Lions, all the Big Cats, are the most beautiful creatures on this world, and for a long time I have felt the pull to help them, protect them, and do anything to ensure their safety and happiness.
I myself have been interested in an Intern Program at the C.A.R.E facility in Texas.
