Last night I was watching a program on the TV that was discussing the subsidized artist housing community in Edmonton. While I did agree that the artists should make their own living, I was appalled at the complete ignorance towards the arts in general.
I will not name names as that only adds to more mud slinging. Instead, I am going to continue writing my articles to prove the fact that the arts are more then just the delusions of an idle mind. Today’s selection is a perfect example of artistic ingenuity, didacticism and a touch of psychology.

Actually for the Golden Ass, it is Vixyy. It was a tale of morals and how one should act in society, if Lucius didn't trick Photois into getting the spell, he wouldn't have become an ass.
It is much like the Pilgrims Progress or Gulliver's Travels. Sometimes books have inherent inner meanings other times we look for what may or may not be there.
Many of Kafka's works are in reality reflections of his own life and the struggles that he had to endure. If you have ever read The Trial, it almost fits seamlessly into his personal biography

alas - I am afraid I never really read the classics. I had to do Oedipus Rex with my daughter, and didn't really care for all the moralizing - but then again, looking at literature through the eyes of those of the time, it becomes something else entirely. I found a wonderful seafaring novel in a used book store written in the later part of the 1800's and the opening salvo was a total rant by the author against book reviewers. It made no sense to me until I realized that the book reviewers were exactly like the movie critics now... books were THE entertainment of the time.
*grumbles about books with morals and no shoot'em ups or chase scenes...
