2009 note: This is transcribed from my notebook - I wrote it before I saw the suggestions from the open-casting-call post (for which, thanks again!). I'm amused that this loosely matches one of the suggestions in there anyhow. A little under 1,000, but I can deal.

2011 note: Ow. This was a rough beginning - I could see myself following up on this story, but it hasn't aged well. On the bright side, it was a start to the project - I wrote this on day one and told myself "good enough" and posted it. I'm happy about that "sit down and get work done" part, and it's something I still need practice at. It also has themes that may appeal to some of my audience here. :3
