Brandenburg Concerto #2, Movement 1, Allegro, BWV 1047, by Johann Sebastian Bach
5 minutes 5 seconds
Movement 1, Allegro
Bach's six Brandenburg Concertos were an "audition" for the Margrave of Brandenburg in 1721. They are Bach's, if not mankind's, finest works of music. Bach did not get the job. They laid on forgotten shelves for over a century and were not published until 1850.
Each of these masterpieces focuses on a specific instrument or group of instruments. The Second Brandenburg showcases a notoriously difficult (and now rare) instrument: a Natural Trumpet in high F.
Unlike most of my other Baroque and Classical recordings, my intention with Bach's Second Brandenburg Concerto was to try to imitate the actual instruments as closely as possible: Natural Trumpet in F, Flute, Oboe, Violins, Viola, Violone, Cello and Harpsichord. The various instruments' sounds also remain static like they would in an orchestra, and do not move around the stereo spectrum.
Realized on Yamaha DX-100 synthesizer, echo box and Tascam Porta-1 4-track tape recorder.
Music composed before 1721 by Johann Sebastian Bach (public domain)

You got that right!
Fortunately, the synthesizer provides a technical solution: Since the middle line of the Viola Clef is C, I read it like it's Bass Clef, and then lower the pitch on the synthesizer by a whole note...as long as there aren't too many sharps or flats, that works really well!
Fortunately, I haven't tried playing any pieces with a Moveable C that is elsewhere on the staff! XD
