Oh lord that's depressing. I think it's to twilight after Celestia is threatened into handing him over to the dragon empire, they weren't happy learning one of their stolen eggs is being used as slave labor. Or that's how their ambassador puts it anyway. Sending letters to the princess is his only tie to Twilight now.
