I can't see the present-era Celestia as anything but a pacifist, who would never use violence as a solution if there were a peaceful alternative (and there always is).
But...it's kind of fun to imagine, that maybe as a youth under the reign of Discord the princess had to fight--and did so with righteous zeal, striking awe into her foes.
