Very nice spartan or centurion! Some military forces of the previous eras used ribbed armor, which retained their effectiveness against falling slashes and most thrusts, but failed at times against upward stabs.. but to do that, the enemy had to be within very close combat. The ribbed torso cover would have also been flexible for more ease of movement, but caused more noise than the solid-cast breast plate. I see the philosophy in your design, the efficiency of unrestricted movement with less armor. The Spartans were about the survival of the fittest so simple handicaps from wounds to the arms were acceptable as common place, but meant demotion if performance waned.
I suppose that in the end, the choice of armor is really very relative to the occasion; where the bast warrior is the one with the best field skills and experience. Field skills can even help one construct a crossbow.
Great character! He is very amusing.
