Okay!
Seeing as I have listened to the original a good 100 times during the editing phase of my old TGB segments I think that may make me the one person that has listened to the original track the most IN THE WORLD.
After you.
I may as well return the favour of your giving me permission to use the original tune in my reviews by giving you my thoughts on this never version. Everyone loves comments! =D
The first thing that I noticed was the new tempo. I love it. On that being said (typed?) I love just about everything new and returning with this version.
The new speed is welcome, it's much more engaging and catchy at this pace. It's 1.1 or 1.15 times the speed of the old one yeah?
New instruments. Great! Even though you broke the '4 sound channels' rule, the sounds used make the tune still sound NES-authentic. Not just the kind of authenticity you get out of NES tribute games, but the kind of authenticity you get out of turning legacy mode on in MegaMan 9 & 10 (basically, common problems of the NES show up cosmetically).
The tune still has a lot of impact but what got my ears perked was the progression for the third.... er..... stanza/bar/verse(?) where the key goes up and the whole tone of the tune gets interpreted differently.
Clearly the angle of the music is a kind of 'YOU BEAT GAME OVER! HAPPY END CREDIT. THANK YOU FOR THE A PLAY!' (ahhh... I miss speaking engrish!) I love it, it's the music that makes a perfect mood for landing the fatal blow on the god of destruction, making the evil doctor beg on his knees or saving that dumb bitch FOR GOOD. It's the gamer's victory jingle, that moment you drop the controller down and watch them names scroll like a boss. You put your hands (the legendary instruments of 1337 skillz) behind your head, realise that you are completely unstoppable and go make a sandwich.
All in all, this piece of music is like the first two Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect games; the first one is pretty good, the second one is FUCKING BRILLIANT!!
It doesn't quite touch 'brillsome' on my music-o-meter but I think that's just a restraint of the genre. Maybe whip up an epic remix with the feel of the DJ Strobe's remix of Owl City's Firelies? (link; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fHfWWkIugB8). I know from listening to your other stuff you're more than capable! =^w^=
I think I'd really like to use this for the opening music of my reviews for this year if you'll permit it. I'll note you about possibly commissioning you for something to be the BG music of the rest of the segment. Oh and some character art or comic strips too, I love your style and your sense of humour is pretty close to mine. If our senses of humor were expressed in a Venn diagram it'd look a lot like two stacked dinner plates.
You said that you feel the tune is very much the music for your Nyantendo character. I'd agree that the old one suits her but for this one, maybe give her a bit of a new look? Like some cool little robo-warrior bits of armour and stuff. I'm thinking along the lines of MegaMan Starforce's MegaMan. I'd fap to that! :3
Anyway mate, I hope you liked my thoughts on the piece! I'm going to go listen to some of your other stuff again before nodding off.
Cheers,
~TinyCat
